I know many California people have retired to northern Arkansas where the cost of living is even cheaper than Missouri.

let them retire in northern arkansas I don't want Missouri being a place for retirees when we're the 36th poorest state. I don't have the money to support your social security. If you're moving here get a job.

Do remember that most of us old farts paid into Social Security. In my case I did so for 45 years so I have literally paid my dues. I dare say I put more in than I will live long enough to take out. We will also be bringing with us state defined benefit retirements as well as a 401(k); most of which will, along with our Social Security, be spent in Missouri. We will also pay Missouri's property and income taxes on money we earned elsewhere.
I see it as a fair trade and have no intention of going back to work to support YOUR Social Security.

its not a complete 180 just more specifications... and curmudgeon my social security?! HA! You baby boomers made sure that I won't have one! I'll be working til im 80 because people like you had to have your McMansion 3 cars and highways!! You think its just social security?? Baby Boomers ruined this country, they ruined it.
I don't want any baby boomers moving to Missouri. Only young blood. Baby boomers aren't bringing new ideas and new industry. Missouri has been held hostage by the old guard long enough and more boomers moving to it only ensures that it'll stay the same.
No thank you. No baby boomers no way no sir!
edit -- cooler heads have prevailed. your taxes are welcomed here, I just became a little frustrated. Open the floodgates!

That is painfully immature. Maybe they have a large home because they worked hard all their lives, saved, invested, and spent their money wisely.
Bye Bye now.

maybe they did work hard their lives and saved money that's not the point. the point is they spent their money in ways that were detrimental to the country. I.e. the billions that go into highways the billions that go into cars. the 10 cars they bought over a lifetime, the insurance they spent, the billions of money spent outside of the country on gas. The billions of disinvestment in the city and urban cores as a result. They continue to do it. They continue to spend billions to widen highways and complain about traffic and fail to support mass transit. All so they can have their acres of land and live an hour away from anything. I spend my taxes supporting the newest highway so they can have this lifestyle.
You're barking up the wrong tree boy. The WRONG tree

You remind me of a telephone call I received at work with someone telling me I probably wouldn't help them because they're not important and I was probably lounging with my feet on my desk, looking out over the fgolf course through my picture window while sipping a latte.
You're absolutely correct. On my first day in the working world I specified that my Social Security deposits could ultimately go to help anyone after I'm gone EXCEPT Modcut- personal attack.
My wife and I don't own a home because we married right when the housing spike began in the 90s and we didn't want to be house poor. We can, however, afford to buy a nice home next door to you. We saved and invested wisely to that end. So much for the CA McMansion.
By the way, we own one car and not all that long ago did without a car altogether for a bit over four years because we live downtown and are within walking distance of former work sites, groceries, farmer's markets, general shopping and entertainment.
As for the rest of the blather, I'll simply ignore it.
