It depends on how much $$ you have. But parts of STL City (like the Central west End), Mid County (Clayton/Ladue areas), and most of West STL County would be extremely great places to live.- actually hard to beat anywhere. I am sure that South County has some nice areas too, but I am less familiar with them. Rural MO areas that are nce include the Columbia and Osage Beach areas. I know little about KC. I would not want to liive in Northern MO unless I was interested in farming. It is mostly flat and alot like Kansas or Iowa. The bootheel area does not seem to have much either. (No offense to anyone, but just not much there for an outsider).

I don't really care for the bootheel myself, mostly because it's really flat. I prefer the Ozarks.

astrocyte is on a distinguished road
I love Lees Summit, MO. I'm lucky that my work is within the city.

PROS: It's not perfect but I love the peacefulness of the city. I moved here 3 years ago from the Bay Area, CA. Most people here are nice and polite (You can feel that.). You always feel secured everywhere you go (I heard that the police force can sometimes be very pro-active.). I have never seen homeless people in the streets. You can sleep well at night without even thinking about your car parked outside your apartment. Shopping is great. Macy's and JC Penney (Chipman Rd) are opening this Aug 2009. I'm not sure if there is a bad part of the city (I've heard about that part close to Hobby Lobby along 291 HWY but it's just a very small part of the town and it doesn't seem to be really bad.). Crime rate is very low. Nice schools. Nice parks.

CONS: If you love clubbing, you will need to go downtown or to nearby cities. It can be really cold in the winter (but the last one was not bad at all). It gets really humid in the summer. I don't know what else to think.

It has been a good experience living here. Unfortunately, I have to move back to CA because the company needs me to relocate again.
