I would definately NOT suggest moving to Bridgeton, you are right, it is not a good area at all. If you are wanting rural, your husband is going to have to drive. Either over the St. Charles bridge(not recommended) a little past the Wentzville area, or the other way on 44 towards the Washington/Union area, which are both growing small towns.

Missouri girl here, for 35 years! We live in Central Missouri-near the Capitol of Jefferson City, which is gorgeous, friendly, conservative, and still holds family values important. Crime rate is super low and the housing is very affordable. Some of the outlaying areas have smaller schools that are fantastic. The Catholic schools are super influential. In fact, this area of Missouri places religion very high on the list. In other words, on Sunday mornings(and Saturday nights) people are in Church. Not so in the cities. I know this to be true! The best part of JC though, is that you are 30 mins from Lake of the Ozarks, 30 mins from Columbia and Mizzou games, and 2 hours from STL, 2 hours from KC. It's the perfect location!
I personally am not a fan of St. Louis. One person mentioned Fenton/Eureka. That is a nice part, with the best rated public school in the area, but it's really outside of the city. First hand experience tells me it is not a very friendly city, and if your kids don't attend private school, forget about it! Crime is high, traffic is horrible, and lots of bad manners abound. Sorry if I offend you St. Louisans, but I lived there for 5 years and wouldn't move back for anything in the world! It's a rat race!

There's minimal, to negligible crime. Schools are good, and the new high school was just finished several years ago. If you have any boys they might be interested to know that they just opened the new football field and it has that new artificial field turf, which is kind of neat. There is a nice city park, and later this fall when the new bridge over the Missouri River is complete, there will be a bike trail connecting Hermann with the KATY trail. Shopping is pretty easy with Warrenton Outlet Mall probably only 20 minutes away. The town also just opened up an outdoor amphitheater that I'm sure they'll get some good use out of. It's probably an hour to an hour and a half to the airport in St. Louis. Still humid, but I think anywhere in Missouri would be. You'd be selling yourself short to not give Hermann a hard look. Check out some of the pics on this webpage.

Historic Hermann, MO, Heart of Missouri Wine Country
Oh my goodness! Hermann is beautiful, and a great place to visit and take in for the day. Moving there...another story! Everyone there has lived there their entire lives, and for several generations! They do not take well to outsiders! Good luck being accepted!

I have a question that I hope I can get help with. I am in the Navy and I purchased a home in Cabool, I am not from Missouri but we feel in love with it once we got there and seen how beautiful it was so we bought our home. My situation is we can't find any pictures of Cabool anywhere. We won't be getting there until May time frame and we are very excited. Does anyone have any photos they wouldn't mind sharing? We would like to see the town and just some of the general area. Anything would be great! Thank you and we look forward to getting home and becoming a part of the community.
Have a Very Merry Christmas and God Bless...

Bassman,

Thank you for your reply. I consider it a privilage to serve our Great country. I will look at whatever you have and I will try and start a post requesting this. We are really excited about moving there. We were working with Baker Realty since 2004 and we finally took leave and spent 2 days there and all we did was look at houses. Pat at Baker is awesome if anyone is in need of an outstanding Realtor talk to Pat she was a God send for us. We didn't get a chance to see the town or anything like that while we were there due to time constraints, but when we saw our house we knew that this was home for us. I am currently in Japan and will be home soon and we are counting the days until we get there. Everyone we met in West Plains treated us better than we had ever been treated. It was a good feeling to be around genuine people for a change. We received a discount on our hotel because we were there looking to buy a house there. Trust me I have been in the Navy for 18.5 years and haven't had that kind of treatment in a long time. So it was a very good feeling. Ready to come home that is for sure!!

A very Merry Christmas, and may God bless you too, sir! I had to remind myself where Cabool is located in Missouri--right along the very nice U.S. Highway 60 between Mansfield (Laura Ingalls Wilder home) and Willow Springs.

Some pictures of Cabool on the flickr.com website: http://www.flickr.com/search/?q=cabool%2C+missouri.

More pictures of Cabool from Google Images:
http://images.google.com/images?hl=e...h+Images&gbv=2

Hope these links work OK! Both flickr and Google Images are terrific for offering photos of different locations. That part of southern Missouri is wonderful for nice scenic drives, as well as caves and rivers not far away either!

Talking Merry Christmas, NavyCopper!

Glad you found us, too...my dad is Navy (retired) and my daughter is Navy currently in Afghanistan. God Bless you and all our military men & women.

You'll find this is a very welcoming place for military personnel...don't miss the Veterans Day Festivities in Branson!

I will caution you to not put your email address in the body of a post...that's how spammers pick you up. If you will contact a moderator, they can remove the one you posted up there...

It'll be great to have you home.
