^I don't know of anybody in Memphis that claims it's where blues started, just the "home" of it. It's in their slogan. It can be disputed that Memphis is the birthplace of rock and roll.

One of the reasons I enjoy STL is because it's close to a lot of other major cities. I could make a weekend trip out of Chicago by driving really easily.

Buncha city slickers sitting around arguing about which crowded mess of concrete, steel and flesh is better.
Funny.
And comforting, too, knowing that most of you prefer to remain in a city, and when you move, you'll just move from one big city to another.
Thank you.

I was raised mostly in rural areas and small towns, but I do live in a city now, and appreciate it to an extent. Looking to move back to a less crowded area in the near future. I wish the Ozarks weren't so crowded.
I was driving between Ava and Branson not long ago, and on 76 it was house...after house... after house... then that huge ranch some rich guy from St. Louis had (the only non-developed part of the whole trip)... and then another house.. and another... if that's country living, might as well stay in the city, and at least be close to the store.
I wasn't raggin' on you, ozarksboy, just irritated at what the Ozarks have become.
For me, I'm looking at maps showing the growth rates, and hoping to find a place that's loosing population. I don't care about jobs, I just want peace and quite.

Who's living in those houses? Where did they come from? Are the city people looking for the simple life? Looking for that rural experience? Looking for that peaceful tranquility?

The people I was with lived in the area, and knew who lived in some of the houses. Some of the houses had long-time locals in them. They moved from one of the surrounding small towns to live out there.
A lot of the houses were smaller in size. Outsiders from the big city, or California, usually build big, gaudy things that stick out like a sore thumb. There were a few of those, too. I'm sure everyone was looking for peaceful tranquility.

I live in CT, I've been to both....both for the same reason...TO SEE MY YANKEES PLAY ON THE ROAD!
I liked Kansas City. Downtown St. Louis was kinda boring. Kansas City not only had the negro league hall of fame but the JAZZ hall of fame and as a HUGE Jazz/baseball fan it was heaven.
St. Louis was nice. Dont get me wrong. The Arch was cool. But as a suburban New Yorker that doesnt impress me much!

Maybe you should have gotten out of Downtown. Did you check out all the museums at Forest Park, the world-renowned St. Louis Zoo (which is free)? St. Louis Walk of Fame? City Museum?
Did you tour the Anheuser-Busch Brewery? Did you take a tour of haunted Lemp Mansion? Did you look at the Scott Joplin house? Did you go to Blueberry Hill, where Chuck Berry still plays once a month? How about the Missouri Botanical Garden? How about the Science Center or Purina Farms? Why not take a tour of Union Station? I know probably a lot of St. Louisans consider it a tourist trap, but you can take a tour of the station away from the bustle of the main stores.
I realize there's not always time to visit everything, but there's so much more to any city than just Downtown. Downtown has improved a lot. But there's a lot more to see.

I was 13 when I went there and I'm 17 now so I cant go to the brewery...for four more years!
I stayed in the suburbs. I was really just there with my dad on a Yankee road trip. From what I saw it wasnt great.
Dont try and say, "You havent seen the world, you were only 13 and now you're only 17" because I've been to 25 states and 10 countries.
