No one thinks of STL when they think of BBQ....
Evidently, seems strongly that little knowledge of StL architect and/or of StL BBQ is held by this person.

and of course you don't touch the BBQ comment... theres nothin to say i said all the facts... wipe the tears away and accept it.

St. Louis has amazing architecture, even with all of it *cough* Century Building *cough* architecture that has been torn down needlessly. What's left is still pretty amazing. How about the painted ladies in Lafayette Square? Or the Fox Theater? The Cathedral Basilica (I believe it's called).

I had an hour-long conversation with an architect in Chicago recently about St. Louis' architecture. They studied some of the buildings in school.

And skrazzle, you only wish you had our BBQ ribs. Seriously. I was in Oregon a few years back and saw St Louis style ribs on a menu there.

pffffft...... you got the menu, what KC get? Another city (San Diego) trying to emulate the style and naming it's restaurant after it:

Kansas City Barbeque - San Diego

St Louis style ribs are all over the country. I had them in Tampa.

Straight from your own newspaper
As much as downtown KC has done, similar cities have done more - Kansas City Star

Yeah did you note happen to read it and see where it contradicts the things you have said? This article is also written before the P&L district was open

Including:

"our downtown stands out in a few big ways — we’ve added more lofts and condos per year than any of our peers,"

"Some national statistics only measure the first half of this decade. Plus, different downtowns are in different stages of rebirth, with some starting earlier than Kansas City did. Given all that, The Star’s analysis represents more of a snapshot than a complete picture."

"Downtown Kansas City has evolved into a residential neighborhood more successfully than just about any of its peers. It has added an average of almost 500 new housing units a year this decade."

"As a result, Kansas City’s downtown population has jumped by more than 4,000 people, ranking Kansas City No. 3 among peer downtowns in average annual population gain"

“Each city did not start at the same time, so comparisons are premature.”

It says KC has a net gain downtown of 4 bars compared to STL 28, of course this doesn't including the 23 or so that opened with P&L district last year.... putting them on par with each other.

And as far as the other comparison to STL is said "•St. Louis: converted historic buildings into lofts — and added a casino to its riverfront."

the and is the important part.... good for you, we already have plenty of casinos on our riverfront...

Downtown has a lot more to do IMO, trust me i've said it TONS on the KC forums.... but I do think its way ahead of STL. Our downtown has a higher population, and it's gaining on a higher rate then STL. All statistics show this... KC still needs light rail, definitely more jobs centered in KC (our problem is the kansas side makes it much easier and cheaper for business to start up), etc... lots to do really

try using information thats not so outdated in the future.

and of course people can always find dissent....

From your own FELLOW STL people:

St. Louis may be boring, but that's not a bad thing - Opinion/Editorial
"Our nightlife may be next to nonexistent, our entertainment venues are one ticket-stub short of a yawn and our public transportation is lacking. There is no doubt that St. Louis, the Gateway to the West, is boring. The city has been fighting its dull reputation for as long as I can remember-but why? Is boring necessarily bad?"

"Try as we may, St. Louis is really just the nerdy junior high school girl with a good personality, great grades and a fairly good body, but who dresses for comfort and practicality. The boys just won't notice her"

"I am not ashamed to live in one of the most boring cities in the U.S"

Let's see what our Fark friends have to say about STL:

http://www.city-data.com/forum/newre...eply&p=7394760

This is written as of Jan 19th 2009:

"St Louis sucks. No one wants to go downtown because it's farking boring and run down, not because they have to put 2 bucks worth of quarters in a meter for the happy hour time."

"Was pleased that a submission somehow managed to paint the city I grew up in in a positive light; one post in and cambie manages to poop on my parade.

/not that I disagree with anything posted so far
//downtown is worthless save for lacledes"

"Sadly, pretty much this. I have season tickets for the Blues, and you run out of places to eat/drink before the game within walking distance of Scottrade pretty farking quickly. Aside from Maggie O'Brien's and the few places left open in Union Station there's pretty much zilch in that entire area."

So... what now? These are comments FROM STL people...
