Moved a house??
Has anyone here moved a house any considerable distance (within state)? I'm wondering if it is horribly expensive before I even consider it.

I've not, but have seen such done and out of curiosity have looked at such undertakings... brave people!
Might check out the following article, esp. page 3: HowStuffWorks "How House Moving Works"
Some insights here too: Picking Up and Moving (the House) - washingtonpost.com
Good luck

I have a neighbor that moved a house when the state widened a highway where the house resided. They just set it on blocks and uts been that way ever since. Its been for sale for years the the biggest expense and hassle is powerlines because its a two story.

My grandfather did, My Dad says they bought the house but had to move it to thier property, which was on the other side of the back 40.
So my Grandfather and the other local farmers felled some trees. Then they lines up the trees and uses them as rollers to roll the house across the field. Oh they had Mules to pull with too.........Back in the 30's

Several years ago they moved a Victorian house from Carthage to Eureka Springs, Ark. I believe it is the "Wings" mansion. They literally cut it into sections, since it was a 2 or 3 story with turrets and used flatbed semis. They had a crew of electrical workers leading the way to raise the lines. Rumor was that it cost many thousands of dollars, but we are talking a BIG house going a LONG way. Several houses in this area have been bought and then moved to make way for road expansions. It can be cheaper than building a new house, if you already have the property.
