I spent the weekend running a saw and repairing relatives roofs. Here are some pix of the damage. The before and after of my camping spot will give you a little perspective.
I took those two from about the same angle. If you look close you can see where my fire was in the circle of chairs.
I saw one ridge where every single tree is down...looked like Mt. Saint Helen's.
I have tons more pix of town...it's crazy. This is in Fredericktown in Madison County

More rocking and rolling on Wednesday weather wise I'm afraid.
I'm not ready for more yet! This has been a very wet and
cool (temp wise) spring. Argh. Rain good for the garden,
nasty storms not good for the heart.

Now I could easily place tongue in cheek and swear that this was all arranged by OB to discourage a Kahleeforeigner like me from moving to Missouri but none of this is joke-worthy by any means. My heart goes out to those who have lost lives, friends or relatives, property, belongings, land, etc. It's humbling to say the least, yet the level of caring and assistance I've read about being offered without being asked for is uplifting and speaks well of you all.
We look forward to moving back to an area where people are unapologetically their "brothers' keepers" when the need arises and who open their hearts and homes to their neighbors.

The storm damage has temporarily closed some campgrounds and trails in the Mark Twain.
Here's a news release from the Supervisor's Office in Rolla:
Mark Twain National Forest is temporarily closing several campgrounds and ATV trails after the May 8, 2009 storm that hit south central Missouri.
Mark Twain National Forest has closed all 23 miles of Sutton Bluff Motorcycle and ATV trails in Reynolds County, and all 80 miles of Chadwick Motorcycle and ATV trails in Christian County. Both trails will be closed until the Forest Service can get crews into the area to open the trails with chainsaws and heavy equipment.
The clean up is expected to take at least a month or two.
Several campgrounds are also closed due to fallen trees and damaged recreation facilities including Sutton Bluff Recreation Area in Reynolds County; Council Bluff Campground in Washington County; Silver Mines Campground and Riverside Picnic Area in Madison County; Cobb Ridge Campground and Camp Ridge Picnic Area in Christian County, and Loggers Lake Campground in Shannon County.
These campgrounds are expected to be closed for the next few weeks.
If there are customers who have reservation at these campgrounds, the ReserveAmerica Customer Service staff will proceed with notifying each customer and re-booking them to another campground.
If this is not possible, the reservation will be canceled and a customer refund processed.
For more information and updates on trails and campgrounds, please check Mark Twain National Forest’s website at Mark Twain National Forest - Home Page - US Forest Service, call 574-364-4621 or contact your local ranger district office.

I visited some acreage my family owns near Edgar Springs in southern Phelps County over the weekend. Most of the gravel back roads sustained some flash flood damage making it a rather rough trek down the roads. You could see driftwood and debris lodged on barbed wire fence and posts. I spoke to a local guy and he said he was still without electricity at that time.
I wanted to visit Lane Spring in the NF on the way home, but they had the gates closed. There must have been some flood damage there as well.

MoNative34 - yea, some friends/relatives in that area are indeed still w/o electric, as of today - running generators to keep produce/meat in their freezers safe & frozen. According to one, it was they highest they'd ever seen some of these wet-weather creeks, ever...
And just what is needed - latest radar attached.
This early spring weather is going to have an impact on farmers' livelihood, and prices down the road too... Rains delay corn planting

... Missouri growers are also trying to make up for lost time. Only 39 percent of their corn acres had been planted as of May 10 compared to the five-year average of 75 percent. Extension specialists have become concerned about crop injury from pre-emergence herbicides due to cool, wet soil conditions. ...

denbev - if no one here has anything to offer, you might try contacting the county sheriff and/or county clerk for some news regarding property damage, etc. Might even try a Realtor in the area, as they have their ear to the ground - ok, be a wet ear now tho'...
