Chicagogirl actually makes a worthy point -- you don't even get to live in the sorority house your freshman year anyway because they're overcrowded. You'll make a lot of friends with people in your dorm either way.

And Shoegal, if you're going to go to Mizzou, you just immediately start hating luzianne because she went to ku.

Wanna here a funny joke? "Why's the k in kansas not capitalized? Because it's not a proper name or a proper place!" Ohhh, burn!

ku and Mu hate each other -- like truly hate. A girl I went to high school with went to ku and she felt the same way about MU. She said that K State was their rival -- Mizzou was their ENEMY.

It's good times. We'll teach you all the cheers :P

Yeah, well you know why the trees in Kansas lean to the east? Because Missouri s*cks!

and another one...

Little Tommy went to kindergarten one day wearing a KU hat. His teacher asked him why he was a KU fan. He said, "Because my parents are." His teacher said, "That's not good. What would you do if your parents were drug dealers and hookers?" He replied, "Well then I would be a Missouri fan."

Uh...I'll be leaving now!

You know you're from kansas if:
You've been on TV more than 5 times describing the sound of a tornado.
You can't get married to your sweetheart because there's a law against it.
You've ever climbed a water tower with a bucket of paint to defend your sister's honor.
Someone asks to see your ID and you show them your belt buckle.
The Blue Book value of your truck goes up and down depending on the amount of gas in the tank.

Oh and possibly my favorite of one of the greatest ad campaigns ever: Real men of Genius

Quote:
Bud Light Presents: Real Men of Genius
(Real Men of Genius)
Today we salute you, Mr. Excuse Ridden Over-Confident Kansas Football Fan.
(Mr. Excuse Ridden Over-Confident Kansas Football Fan) Eleven straight wins, you wore that classy "Muck Fizzou" shirt like you meant it (Pinch me, I'm dreamin'!) A season of bloated statistics and over-hyped wins against Junior Varsity competition (Serve another cupcake!) Losing to a superior team with better players is no match for your what-if scenarios and could-have-been dreams (The field goal missed by inches!) So crack open an ice-cold Bud Light you emphatic engineer of excuses. After all, you would've won the game if it was played somewhere else!

Hey Luzianne,
Since you're our resident beaker I have a couple of questions...

How can ku justify using the name jayhawk? After all the original jayhawkers were murderer's, rapists and thieves. Where is the pride in that name?

Why does ku wear red socks when playing Mizzou? After all redlegs are also murderers, rapists and thieves. I notice they only wear them when playing Mizzou which continues the tradition of hate.

It seems to me that ku would want to put the whole John Brown era behind them, instead you wave that flag like it is something to be proud of...can you explain why? I really don't get it and this is a large part of why I despise anything ku related.

All of the teams with indian names had to get PC, I am surprised ku hasn't had to do something similar.

Inoxkeeper - here's the history behind the Jayhawk - Legend of the Jayhawk University of Kansas

Red socks when playing Mizzou? I can't really answer that, other than to say that our color are Crimson and Blue and our alma mater is "Crimson and the Blue." I never knew it to have any deeper meaning than just wearing our school colors.

Kansas was a free state; hence all the John Brown stuff and abolishing slavery and that kind of stuff. A lot of violence, yes, but still something to be proud of I think.

So it doesn't bother you to be associated with murderer's, rapists and thieves? I am not using those words as a joke, jayhawkers really did that stuff.

Since you're proud of your jayhawk history I guess I will have to remind you that the Missourians who fought against John Brown once burnt Lawrence to the ground and killed over 100 while doing it. Should I be proud of that?

A few of the shirts sold at Joe College in Lawrence:

Columbia, Missouri: Keeping ugly women out of Lawrence since 1839

God Bless America - except Missouri

49 states can't be wrong: Missouri s*cks

Beat Missouri, every sport, every time, every year. Go Hawks!

I root for 2 teams: Kansas and whoever is playing Missouri

Breathe if you hate Missouri!

The biggest difference between champ and chump is about 166 miles! Muck Fizzou!

The only thing I hate more than Missouri is Missouri fans!

I DON'T brake for Missouri fans!

I hated Missouri before hating Missouri was cool!

I love to hate Missouri.

I'd rather to to hell than Missouri.

In Poland, they tell Missouri jokes!

It's all relative in Missouri (if you know what I mean).

Kansas: Keeping America safe from Missouri since 1854.

M is for Morons

Missouri: 6 million people, 5 last names.

Missouri: How can 6 million people be so stupid?

Missouri. Let me guess - your parents are cousins.

Missouri. Literacy ain't everything.

Mizzou: Embracing mediocrity since 1839.

Missouri Speling Beee Champpion

Missouri "The Taint of the Nation"

Missouri - Where "family values" has a very different meaning!

I was going to buy a funny shirt, but then I remembered MISSOURI FANS can't read.

Missouri girls ain't trash (trash gets picked up).

Missouri: Where it's cool to be a hillbilly.

Missouri is my b*tch!

Missouri: Where wearing a mullet is keeping it real.

Nope, it doesn't bother me, because that's not what I consider a Jayhawk to be, and in the history link I gave you it explained how it evolved to be something other than what you are thinking of. Actually the rivalry started with Quantrill's raid, so the Jayhawkers were minding their own business and were attacked. There was violence on both sides. It's not the history of all of that that we think of TODAY, and like I said, the Jayhawk evolved into something else/a different meaning. So no, the history behind it doesn't bother me at all and that's not what I think of when I think of KU/Jayhawks/Lawrence, any more than you would be pro-slavery because that's what Missourians/Bushwhackers stood for back then. Mizzou could just as easily have used the Bushwhacker as their mascot, and if they did I doubt you'd object to that because you wouldn't see it as a statement for being violent or pro-slavery NOW, even though that is what it once stood for.

My ancestors were Missourians in Laclede County from about 1810 on. I'm probably the first one to break ranks and go to the Kansas side. I don't really hate Missouri but I do love Kansas, and the rivalry is fun...

Actually John Brown "begat" Quantrill so that puts the "he started it" ball back in your court. Quantrill was attacking Lawrence to get revenge against John Brown/Lawrence for taking their wives and daughters prisoner and putting them in an old jail which then collapsed on them, killing a couple. One of the ladies was related the guy who came to be called "Bloody" Bill Anderson. I agree that raiding was going on from both sides so really their is plenty of blame to go around.

I wonder how many folks realize that the civil war started along the MO/KAN border well before shots were fired at Sumter.
