You're lucky! I rarely get ticks..
The spray is the key. Pants, socks and shoes tend to trap the chiggers. When I'm working out in my yard, I'll wear shorts and sandals along with spray and have had better success.

We moved to Pomona (30 miles from the Arkansas border) with two Afghan Hounds in full coat. Coming from the Lake Michigan shoreline in Wisconsin, they were used to the humidity. Frankly it gets just as hot back there as it does here - just for shorter periods of time.
Huskies are very adaptable. So long as the dog is well taken care of, brushed regularly, has plenty of water and shade, he or she will likely be just fine in your warm climate. Siberian Huskies are found all over the world, from the deep southern part of the United States, where it is very warm and humid, to South Africa, Russia, New Zeland, Austrailia, and Alaska. Literally all over the globe in every climate you can imagine.
Our boys have a 10,000 square foot play yard (six foot chain link fence) and direct access to our air conditioned house through a dog door. We have four huge oak trees in their yard that afford shade regardless of the position of the sun. I treat their yard for ticks and use Frontline Plus year round.
When we journey beyond our borders they do pick up ticks (as do I - wish there was Frontline for people), but we examine them very carefully. I know the Frontline will kill the tick as soon as it bites, but I'd just as soon it didn't get that opportunity.
I've heard about chiggers but haven't had that experience as of yet. My biggest problem are the poisonous weeds like ivy and oak. Because we don't get a really hard freeze, ticks, chiggers, and noxious weeds don't die off like they do in northern states.
Wish you luck!!

Wouldn't you know. I no sooner typed the words and I started to erupt. I've got to learn to keep those garden gloves on no matter what. I thought it was a long dead vine stem I was pulling off the oak tree. Guess not so off to the walk in clinic today for a shot and a 21-tablet Pred-Pak. When am I gonna learn.

The only problem I see for retirees, like my wife and me, who are not as young as we once to was is the fact that the closest hospital appears to be Royal Oaks in Windsor which is about 22 miles away. That could be problematic unless there's a very good, well-staffed, 24-hour urgent care center in town.

A good rule of thumb is to look for a "micropolitan county" when moving to a largely rural region. If you go to the Census Bureau you can click on individual counties in any state to find the necessary stats and info. The town/city within the micropolitan county will usually have more services and better medical care.

Thank you. After I posted that I did a bit of searching and came across Bothwell Health Center at Truman Lake in Warsaw or just outside it which sounds ideal for us old folk.
I'll have to use your trick the next time.
