I've known about this for years.
That said, I've never been confronted with meth, even though it's supposed to be worse in the rural areas.
I don't know if we have more meth shacks in the first place, or if we bust more than some other states might.

I went to a suburban high school in KC... graduated 99. I remember some people doing crank... not like a crazy amount or anything.. but some did. Most didn't even know what it was...
I've not known personally but god a friend whos mom she has nothing to do with is a meth head... i've never been to any parties or anything where i've seen people doing it tho.. I think its more of a poor drug and rural like you said...

Meth is definitely present in rural Missouri, although just below the surface. I graduated high school in 2003, and was never confronted with meth personally, although some of its effects were definitely visible. At a retail store I worked at, the name-brand and generic Sudafed boxes would be stolen off the shelves soon after they were restocked. We had to start stocking it behind the behind the desk at the front of the store (this was before the tighter controls on Sudafed were implemented). A few months ago there was also a very violent meth-related murder in my home county that really shocked everyone, both with how violent the murder was, and the fact that the suspects arrested for it were a pair of brothers that grew up in a decent family, got into meth and other drugs, and ended up in a very bad spot.
I think one reason the meth statistics for Missouri are so bad is that the state and local law enforcement are very committed to removing the problem, and lots of meth labs are busted and arrests are made as a result. Most of the meth in America these days comes from Mexico anyway, around 2/3 of it I believe. For an interesting and sad documentary, watch American Meth. It deals with the western states, but the basic elements of the problem are the same everywhere. It is really horrible what that drug can do to people.

I had a guy come to me wanting me to cook, said he had buyers.I turned him down.Couple weeks later there was something like 25 arrest made in my area.Seems the guy was an Undercover Cop.
I live next to Conservation Land lots of people will camp over there,go back in the woods cook up a batch,no one knows long as the wind is right.
Been alot of Marijuana grown around here but it is found pretty fast.Had a bunch growing it here, just didn't go down there or you would get shot at.I know one Guy that got arrested trying to sell 10 pounds.
Drugs are Bad News.I have a younger Brother in his fithties and he has spent most of it in Prison because of Drugs.

Missouri does crack down on the stuff pretty good, but so does a lot of other states. We probably do have a bigger problem with it than most, unfortunately.

Here in Washington county the meth problem is pretty bad. Going out around Richwoods is worse.
Now the big thing is prescription pills sales. One pharm. got broke into and pain meds were taken but the lady was caught red handed.

It's everywhere! The kid across the street was busted by the feds a few years ago, was cooking in his mother's back garage. Spent some time in jail and rehab, now is right back at it.
He made his sister's boyfriend take the rap. So sad that this is going on. Thank heavens my kids stayed away from it.

I know around here, they are busting people right and left. I live in the sticks sorta, but its lighter here than it was in California, where its not cracked down on as hard. sometimes labs out in the open for weeks before a response. I worked with teens out there, its worse than you think out there. (its not good here though)
