Listen, I get kind of grouchy ever now and again (well, quite frequently, actually), and I really am pretty much of a jerk, contrary to what some have said.
So I'm going to continue to try to discourage city people from moving here without educating themselves about Missouri, country living or small-town life. I'm going to continue to grouse about how so-called diversity merely leads to a homogenized region. And you all can continue to argue that bringing in new blood, new ideas, etc., is good for the region. We'll just have to have our disagreeable fun.
People are going to move here whether I like it or not. Lots of them are going to wish they'd never moved. I talked to one at lunch a couple days ago. She moved here from North Carolina and hates it here.
Right now, I think Simplewifeandmom, CaliBassman, Curmudgeon will do all right in Missouri. Kshe95girl, a former Missourian, will do all right if she can ever get back home. I'm still not convinced Tambre is making a wise decision moving to Mansfield. She's way to liberal for that area. I think she should move to Boone County.
But even those who think they're going to like it here will find something to complain about. Nu2Pomona, for instance, complains about independent contractors who work on "Ozarks time." See, I can't figure out newcomers who gush about how they're looking forward to living a place where life is slower-paced and then complain when they move here and run across people who actually live like that!
Oh, well, newbies like to laugh about us rednecks, hillbillies and good ole boys. I hope that with my posts you've come to realize that we're laughing at you, too.
