Can we get a little clarification?
You claim to be adapting well to the Ozark lifestyle and are known for heckling those who struggle to adapt to the slower "Ozark" pace.
Then you turn around and do the same thing as the very folks you are heckling. See example below. Does the word "hypocrite" mean anything to you?
I was also offended by your comments regarding me being a native operating on Ozark time. I will put my 2008 W2 up against yours anytime you wish with a $500.00 payout to the winner. If interested send me a PM and we will work out the details.
Inferring I live in a double wide is also uncalled for as was the tobacco comment. In the future I would appreciate it if you would keep those types of classless remarks to yourself.
I know you're intentionally trying to discourage others from moving to Missouri but you should you know you're also doing a fine job of pissing off several natives along the way.
Inoxkeeper, as an old Georgia-born Southern boy transplanted relatively recently to the Missouri Ozarks, let me unveil my comments. I have to say you natives have certainly not done much with the state. The ditches are full of trash. The roadsides are littered with dead armadillos. And are you one of those natives who operates on Ozarks time? Have to stop and do a little fishing every now and again, do you? Got a satellite dish on the ole double-wide, too? Chew a little "terbacky" and have to spit after every sentence?

So I'm going to continue to try to discourage city people from moving here without educating themselves about Missouri, country living or small-town life. I'm going to continue to grouse about how so-called diversity merely leads to a homogenized region. And you all can continue to argue that bringing in new blood, new ideas, etc., is good for the region. We'll just have to have our disagreeable fun.
People are going to move here whether I like it or not. Lots of them are going to wish they'd never moved. I talked to one at lunch a couple days ago. She moved here from North Carolina and hates it here.
Right now, I think Simplewifeandmom, CaliBassman, Curmudgeon will do all right in Missouri. Kshe95girl, a former Missourian, will do all right if she can ever get back home. I'm still not convinced Tambre is making a wise decision moving to Mansfield. She's way to liberal for that area. I think she should move to Boone County.
But even those who think they're going to like it here will find something to complain about. Nu2Pomona, for instance, complains about independent contractors who work on "Ozarks time." See, I can't figure out newcomers who gush about how they're looking forward to living a place where life is slower-paced and then complain when they move here and run across people who actually live like that!
Oh, well, newbies like to laugh about us rednecks, hillbillies and good ole boys. I hope that with my posts you've come to realize that we're laughing at you, too.

OB, coming from you, that is high praise indeed, and I thank you!
The author Tom Wolfe famously said, " You cant go home again." I believe he was wrong, and cant wait to prove it!

I'm going to fit in just fine in Mansfield. I've met my neighbors and they are lovely, humorous, intelligent hard-working people. And seriously...good looking too My husband and I are working class joes, and not building the McMansion, and pining for lattes and designer clothes. We do want a basement though! We were just out there during multiple tornado warnings, and when we were advised to go to our "safe place immediately", my husband jokingly put on his hat.
Anyway, I think it will be an interesting place to learn about cattle farming, haying, and gardening and canning,...we bought 64 acres. The beauty of the land is breathtaking...it speaks to my soul, and to my husband's soul. We just stand in the field by the house and look at the view, and are spiritually lifted to a place of indescribable peace.
We definitely will have some different political opinions, but that's America. Violence and prejudice against any group does bother me though. My strong liberal streak get's really stirred by that. I think of Mark Twain, though...guess he was able to fit in.
Just because I live in NY, don't think that everyone thinks the way I do. I'm used to being different. Our neighbors are politically diverse...some liberal, some conservative, some religious, some atheist, some intellectual, some salt of the earth, some friendly, some reserved. We live in a working class neighborhood. I'm savy enough to know that there's different kinds of smart for different kinds of environments. I also try not to put people down for being different than me. There are some exceptions!!! I don't like people who only look out for what is good for themselves, and those who are mean and haughty.
So OB, I may not become one of your groupies, and you probably will not join my fan club either. Such is life...best of luck.

Nope, no need to whip out your W2 or anything else. You win. You are THE man!

He left Missouri in his 30s, went west, including time in San Francisco and then went east to Buffalo, N.Y., and then to Hartford, Conn., where he raised his family. He turned into a damyankee! That's how he fit in!

OOPS. So, you wouldn't consider him a famous "Missourian", as he travelled to other places?

No, he's still a Missourian, but he turned into a dadburned Connecticut Yankee. Still my favorite author, though.

I'm reading Tom Sawyer to my kids for homeschool right now. My 11-year-old loves it, but even my 6-year-old boy asks every day, "Are we reading Tom Sawyer?" It's a timeless classic.
Some of the language is colorful though. The other day I asked my son to look for something in the hall. I said, "Is it there?" And he replies, "God d**n it is!" I couldn't believe he said it, and where did it come from!?!?! He said he heard it in Tom Sawyer. Whoops!

So he's the one who disrupted King Arthur's Court. I might have known!
Don't leave out his 4-5 months in the Sandwich (Hawaiian) Islands for the Sacramento Union newspaper which paid him the princely sum of $20 apiece for four "letters" a month describing island life, people and scenery. This was, of course, after he was "invited" to "resign" his "reportership" (his words) from the San Francisco Morning Call.
