Thanks OA. I agree that we all have lessons to learn from each other, and being around people who are different is a good opportunity to broaden ourselves and our viewpoints.

Mo Wannabe,
That sounds fantastic. Do you or your husband have experience with cattle farming? I wish you the best of luck with selling your house. There is a glimmer of hope with the lower interest rates, and the $8,000 first time buyer tax credit.

Inoxkeeper, what can I say? Your posts today have been very thoughtful, erudite, and most of all, TRUE!
Thank you for defending us doublewide living, tobacco chewing natives.
BTW, I think I hear my granny spinning in her grave in the Ozarks just about now, she would die all over again if she read the previous posts.....

Inoxkeeper, I'm surprised you didn't get it.
It was satire. Silvermouse got it. I thought you would, too.
What I did was take some of the offensive statements comments made by people who are newbies, or wannabes or who have left Missouri, packaged them in one post and presented them as coming from a transplant.
The comments about the dirty ditches, Ozarks time and going fishing came from Nu2Pomona, a newbie. The comment about the mobile home with satellite dish came from OA, who lives in Texas. The comment about tobacco and punctuating each sentence by spitting came from RobinY, who is a wannabe, I think, although he/she keeps changing his/her mind.
Then I sent those comments as a Georgia native who is a recent (relatively speaking) transplant to Missouri. Let me reiterate that I am a Georgia native only because my dad was in the Air Force, stationed at Werner Robbins AFB. Three months later he went to Japan for a year and my mother brought me, a baby in her arms, from Georgia back to her home, to Missouri where I've been ever since. When I say I am a recent transplant, I add the word "relative," because on the timeline of Missouri history, world history and universal history, my arrival here is relatively recent; a whole lot went on before me.
Those comments were offensive when they were said originally. What's ironic and humorous is that people jumped all over me when I complained about them originally. Now you are jumping all over me for stating them facetiously.
I regret making you angry, Ioxkeeper, for I have long admired your posts. They weren't directed at you. I just happened to use a reply to your post, because I thought you would get it.
I was pleased to note that the three people most offended by complaints about Missouri from someone they perceived to be a recent transplant were you, MoNative and Kshe95girl, all natives. I'll say it again: I'm pleased by that. And I think I proved a point: Long-time residents, and especially the natives, do not like transplants complaining about this great state.
Regards,
Ozarks Boy

You are well known for heckling those who once they move here have the gall to complain about the Ozark time zone, lack of shopping, trashy neighbors etc.
THEN you turn around and post this...
Inoxkeeper, as an old Georgia-born Southern boy transplanted relatively recently to the Missouri Ozarks, let me unveil my comments. I have to say you natives have certainly not done much with the state. The ditches are full of trash. The roadsides are littered with dead armadillos. And are you one of those natives who operates on Ozarks time? Have to stop and do a little fishing every now and again, do you? Got a satellite dish on the ole double-wide, too? Chew a little "terbacky" and have to spit after every sentence?
That make it pretty clear that your are a fraud. You can't come on here and tell folks to buck up, no shopping, no big deal, trashy? Too bad, should have noticed that before you moved while at the same time whining about those very same issues yourself. (see example above AGAIN!)
BTW, I am still waiting for you to address your comments about me personally living in a doublewide and being a "terbacky" user. Those are condescending remarks that are an insult to any native Missourian. I encourage you to get face to face with a doublewide living, terbacky using native Missourian (if you can find one) to share those feelings. Let me know how that goes will ya, make sure to pad the seat of your pants prior so you will have something soft to land on when you get knocked on your ass.
In my book you're classless, a fraud and a hypocrite. Frankly I don't think you deserve the OB moniker (another example of being a fraud, you are not an Ozark Boy if you are from GA!) and I resent the fact that you have taken it upon yourself to attempt to be some sort of gatekeeper saying who will and won't be successfull in Missouri.
It sounds to me like YOU hate Missouri and are taking it out on those would dare consider moving here.
PS, this is coming from someone who has defended your comments in the past. I won't make that mistake again I promise you that!
PSS, it appears many agree with me! I have gotten several "rep points" for this post in the short time it's been up! Put that in your hypocritical pipe and smoke it!

Since you like to bring up the fact that I don't live in Missouri, just as others enjoy bringing up the fact that you were born in Georgia, I feel the need to clarify a few things:
1. I lived in Missouri for the first ~23 years of my life. I left the state in 2007.
2. 19 of those Missouri years were spent on a gravel road in the country outside of a tiny town in the "Deep Ozarks" that doesn't even have a stoplight. I couldn't have wished for a better place to have spent them.
3. The latter 4 were spent in your neck of the woods, Rolla.
4. I am officially moving back to Missouri in August of this year. The move to Texas was for graduate school, which will be completed in less than a month.
If you do the math, you will find that I've spent over 90% of my life in Missouri. That number will increase when I'm back to being a full-time resident again. I really like Missouri, and can't wait to be home.
It angers me too when people pass judgment about an area. I've experienced it a few times myself when I've told people where I am from, and they've made instant judgments or snide remarks. You simply can't jump to conclusions about an individual based on where they are from. Life is not that simple.
Nu2Pomona's comment about "Ozarks Time" is at least based in fact. I've experienced it myself, and found it truthful enough to chuckle when I read it. But does everyone in the area operate on "Ozarks Time"? No, the vast majority do not. Some very hard working and punctual people live there too.
RobinY's comment was just as offensive to me as it was to you. That is OK though, because after living in the area for so many years, I know it not to be true.
I apologize if you took my comments in a negative manner. That was not my intent. I was stating some of the many experiences I had living in the area. I have plenty of other positive and negative ones too, although the vast majority are positive. The owners of said mobile home saw fit to spend money on an expensive satellite dish while neglecting to properly feed and clothe their children. There is nothing wrong with living in a mobile home equipped with a satellite dish, but their is something wrong with compromising the well-being of your own children while indulging yourself. I think we can all agree with that. However, similar situations can also be found outside the Ozarks. In hindsight, I should have specified that in my original post. The vast majority of the people in the area do not live like that, but some certainty do. I'm sure you know this just as well as I do.

I don't think the future Rolla Gay Pride Parade is my cup of tea...but I'd gladly split a pitcher of green beer with OB during the St. Pat's parade

Ozarksboy, I would be offended by ANYONE talking smack about my beautiful Missouri, native or transplant.
It would be the same as someone speaking offensively about a member of my family, to loosely use a well-worn analogy.
I booked a flight home yesterday , I cant wait to wander the land of my ancestors, and enjoy NOT being in the 4th most populated state (Florida).
