I booked a flight home yesterday, I cant wait to wander the land of my ancestors, and enjoy NOT being in the 4th most populated state (Florida).
I would wager to state that what I bolded here is what gets many [well, at least just maybe me ] people riled up... when someone(s) speaks ill of some others from the city, speaks ill of some others that have a lifestyle that they don't cater to, speaks ill of all people from within a certain area in derogatory tones, speaks ill of other entire states stereotyping them as the same "non-desirable" ilk, painting all from 'that' area as all being the same, and so forth - IMHO that is what gets many people then peeved and defensive. Myself, as a city-born, country-raised hay-bailing-under-hot-summer-sun Ozarkian-loving tree-huggin'-independent-Republican/Libertarian-with-liberal-thoughts college-educated hillbilly fool, I get my dander raised when anyone speaks ill in broad swaths about anyone else, w/o really knowing them, their history, their desires. I will defend the hills and hollers of my beloved Ozarks and Missouri and the Midwest and this country and all others on this planet that share an open-mind, honesty, and are of good heart.

These statements aren't quite true. You all got your collective danders up when I used phrases and words others had already used to criticize broadly, but you didn't get your danders up at the original postings.

I've discovered that when I drop in words and phrases from others, whose comments go unremarked or even lauded, I'm the one berated. Frustrating, yet funny.

So, tell me, just exactly what are you implying?
Are you suggesting Shadowcaver, Inoxkeeper and I are speaking untruths?
Calling the natives hillbillies etc., is one thing, even when it is so-called satire, and not very good satire at that!
Implying that we are less than truthful is totally another thing, we natives certainly do not cotton to that, nor do we put up with it.
You are starting to skate on some thin ice here, I suggest you head towards the bank, or perhaps the barn?
That IS where we put the old jackasses when we are done with them for the day.

Not Inoxkeeper. Look again. I didn't quote him.

And maybe not ShadowCaver. I went back and looked at something he'd written in opposition to RobinY's original post.

But you, yes, I'm saying that you got riled by the statements I lifted from other posts and used in my not-so-great satire, but you were mum when they were posted originally. You're very selective in who you get riled at in your so-called defense of what once was your home state.

She wasn't mum, she wasn't here! In case you didn't know Kshe has only recently been active here at CD after a lengthy break.

Great line K-She! I owe you a few more reps!

Georgia boy, you're fighting a losing battle, a wise man would retire from the field and wait for a better day.

Okay enoough already. I have read every single post on this thread and one thing clearly stands out. OB has/is doing his best to paint a rather negative and backwards view of Missouri. I will agree that prior to relocating anywhere on this planet, a person would do well to do their homework first. Now if said relocatee() is being transferred to someplace in our lovely state, they may have no choice in the matter about certain locations.

Not all of those coming to Missouri from other states or countries will attempt to change 'our' ways. However, I do firmly believe that Missourians would be better off keeping an open mind. When I moved to the country I joined the PTA. After attending 3 or 4 meetings I finally felt comfortable to make a suggestion regarding fund raising . The method that I presented had been used while I belonged to the Room Mothers and the PTA in St. Louis, but I never volunteered that information.

Most of the 'old timers' immediately dismissed my idea by saying, 'oh we've never tried that before'. Now how in the world can there ever be mutual progress if ideas are turned down without discussion or trial. And this is what I am reminded of when reading this thread. No matter what idea, thought, inspiration, suggestion or presentation is brought to the 'native's' attention, it will be wrong, dismissed, laughed at, turned down, and/or ridiculed. How sad.

I do not consider new ideas as being changes so much as additions to existing conditions. And, what is wrong with new places to shop, meet or explore. Now, if you enjoy and like heating with firewood, wearing bib overalls, which can be quite comfortable, or so I've been told, , , chewin' tobaccy, party lines for your telephone, no electricity, and on and on, oh and no internet to post your ideas and thoughts, then by all means have at it. With my blessings.

Some of the very people who post here would do well to remember that they have the freedom to express themselves here as do those who disagree and enjoy these 'foreign' amenities brought to Missouri by so many transplants, etc.

Inoxkeeper, maybe I will do that. Maybe I'll just sit here and lurk and read the Missouri Forum, where most of the posters either live in California or Florida or they just recently moved here but now they all know what Missouri really needs. And this Missouri-flavored forum is moderated by a guy who lives in Indiana.

Then again, maybe I'll continue being a thorn in everyone's side until I get kicked off city-data.

Hmmmmm, OB, that might not be a bad idea.
I think we should all heed Northwoods Voyagers wise words. She always has things to say worth listening to.

Being of suspicious nature I went searching this evening. My suspicions were right! Georgia Boy is using us for material for his blog. Too funny! Stir the pot, get a reaction and write about it.
