Hey wait a minute...
I think it should be Curmudgeon in the Majorette uniform wearing high heels, after all it is Rolla's First annual Gay Pride Parade... All us, no you, Californians are going to have to Show-them Show-Me Staters how to have a good Gay Day Parade or else they'll shurley mess it up with pretty girls (that like boys) tractors, combines, horses, and American Flags (Maybe a few Reb Flags too) Me I think I'm going to move to Harrison, Arkansas..They'll never allow a gay parade there....

Then you're gonna have to have Cali BassMan be your parade partner 'cause he's from the Bay Area and they're experts on those types of things. Bein' a former SoCal surfer and ocean sailor and now an inlander I don't have a clue!
And here I was gonna buy you that glass of wine!

As one who plans a move back to Missouri after many years in California, I will add my two cents to the warning... it's not about Avocados and yes, they are a metaphor. Make sure you are ready for the cultural change -- it's the woods and there are hills, etc, but this won't be Mendocino or any other Northern California lifestyle.
Be ready to have your politics given to you by church "welcome" signs. Don't expect to find like-minds in the diner if you voted the liberal left ticket last November, though Missouri seems to have mellowed a bit over the past 20 yrs.
It's hot -- no micro-climates. Lattes can be found, but they are NOT endemic to the area, unlike California. There will likely be more proselytizing, appreciated or not. iPods are not the norm.
But the trade-off can be rewarding! The lifestyle is slower - and the tomatoes in your garden can grow to 12ft. tall! There are less people telling you how to build and maintain your property (maybe not in the big cities, but in the country). The water is cleaner. The storms are bigger. There are fewer people per square mile...
I cannot wait. I'm planning to move back in a month to the Ava area. I'm originally from Texas, but have spent many years in Forsyth, Mo... my kids were born in Branson at Skaggs.
I'm an artist (clay and watercolor, mixed media, too) and a musician (guitar, singing) and work as a web designer/developer via the internet. I can live anywhere because my work comes online (telecommuter) from Chicago. I'm moving back because I love the state, the Ozarks and want to live near my own kids and my grandkids. And I want to live a slower lifestyle in a state that I can afford.
I can't wait. I hear Ava is a wonderful little town.

This is exactly why I am in love with Southern MO and I have no doubt we would be perfectly content there. We'll leave our little rural CA town, and never look back!

But of course. And in OB's The Ozarks Almanac. We wouldn't want to deprive anyone of the ability to participate.

We'll be looking down our progressive and sophisticated noses up here in metropolitan Rolla at you backwards hillbillies down there in Blue Eye.
