You will complain about these things. I guarantee it. Transplants ALWAYS do.

I'm glad to hear you've spoken to every single transplant to the state of Missouri and have learned that every single one of them complains about the lack of shopping. Coming from my personal experience, I've known many transplants actually love the place they move to (whether it be the Ozarks or Austin) and constantly rave that "this place is SO much better than where I left, and I would NEVER go back!"
To appliceng: Cabool is a nice little town. I'm from that area myself and often miss it. If you get the itch for some shopping, Springfield is only an hour away and has everything you'll ever need.

Moving to Cabool Area
This is a reply to Ozarksboy....
Not all women need to shop! And like OA 5599 said, I can always go to Springfield. And on the plus side of having to go major shopping in Springfield is the drive. I LOVE TO DRIVE!
Ozarksboy you sound like most Oregonians, they hate "foreigners" to move to their state as wel. Just know that what ever negative comments you have will not turn me away from where we will be living soon. Plus I did drive from Pittsburgh to Cabool and spent a few days there. On top of that, I drove at the worst time! At the end of January when you had the worst snow in years!
My husband and I did our homework and know the good along with the bad and it all balances out. Cabool here we come!
Ozarksboy, you also said "that you can't function because of the lack of artistic expression." The artistic expression is all around Cabool and the Ozarks as God used his hands to create a beautiful place.
And last but certainly not least, my Grandmother was born in Missouri! SO I CONSIDER MYSELF TO BE "GOING HOME."!

What? A slicker who isn't a materialist? Well, maybe you'll be able to handle the lack of shopping after all. I doubt it, but we'll see.
You're right. I don't care for newcomers moving into Missouri. Your presence changes the personality of the state, particularly our region. That change usually isn't for the better.
Nothing I can do to stop it, though, so I'll have to try to learn to deal with you.

That's true. Missouri has changed considerably in the last 15-20 years.

'tis always good that a person, no matter their religious background & belief [or maybe more importantly those that have such strong beliefs], can be so welcoming to their neighbors... and not so judgmental of others. Does it really matter where a person is born? Is it not more important to give all a chance, the benefit of the doubt? Even those that are born in another state? Even if a person was born in, for example, Georgia? Good grief - what difference does it make... suppose by that way of thinking that then there are no Missouri-born folks that are suspect in their ways too that cause you angst, that you then have to deal with them too?

True. But can you show me a state, a region, a country, that hasn't changed considerably in that time span?

You're kidding, right?
This will brighten your day. My wife has made up my mind for me about moving to Missouri. You and I won't be neighbors after all. SW lake country beckons and what the hey. A monthly overnight in STL to shop at Trader Joe's will be a pleasant getaway and interlude.

I have no idea as I'm no sociologist. The urbanites that I have observed fleeing to my small town seem very whiney and incredibly naive about the realities of living in a small rural town. It does wear on one after awhile.
This does not mean I despise all people who move to my state. As OB is fond of saying, I don't really mind people who want to become Missourians (though of course I'd hate to see our state have a huge population explosion).

So you aren't coming to Missouri? I wondered after I heard you mention once she wasn't real thrilled about it, if it would be good for you. Where are you retiring?

I should have expressed myself better. We ARE moving to Missouri. It will simply be in the SW area rather than other places we've researched. I thought OzarkswBoy would be relieved to no that at least these two Kahleeforeigners won't be moving in next door and coming over to borrow a cup of sugar while ruining the neighborhood with our materialistic tendencies.
Any reluctance my wife may have about moving is solely because her daughters and grandchildren are here. Other than that, she loves the area, having lived in the Ozarks for seven years in the past.

Grandkids are quite a draw. My folks finally moved up here from SW Mo after we had our first child. Never was much interested in the area before that.
