Change spelling to Mizzuruh
Outsiders always try to correct how folks here pronounce our state. Instead of changing the way we say it, let’s just spell it like it sounds. To “Mizzuruh” instead of “Missouri.”

I don't know anybody who says "Mizzurah".
I'm sure some do, but to me, and pretty much everyone I know, it's Missouree.

The people correcting you are probably other Missourians not outsiders. You can argue till the cows come how about which way is "the right way" but it's an argument you just can't win.

I don't know anybody that pronounces it Mizzourah either. Born in Springfield, lived in KC for most of my life and have lived in the Columbia Area for the last 4 years. I'm 32 y/o if that makes any difference.

I agree, and I've lived in St. Louis area or Carthage for all my 40 years. I saw a sign once that said "Missourah" but it was the name of a farm or something. Don't know anyone personally that pronounces it that way.

Many politicians pronounce it "Mizzuruh" too! But among everyone I grew up with in the St. Louis area, it was "Mizzouree" all the way.

Newsboys came to Poplar Bluff. They asked how to pronounce Missouri. Somebody got up and said "Mizzurah" and everyone booed.

I lived in the state for over 30 years and as far as I'm concerned it will always be Missouri. I can not help it if some ignorant hillbillies have dialect and linguistic issues.
If it were spelled the way you propose indeed it would be pronounced that way. however one hopes the illiterate will not over take the educated. I woul find it distastful for hillbilly or ebonics to actually be accepted as proper.
