Verizon is what I have, and is good along I-44 w/o any issues [just a fallout area ~2 miles west of Cuba], south of Rolla on US63 however ya will lose signal ~3 miles out as go towards Beaver Creek. Can't recall about going north on US63 or west on I-44... but yea, overall its not too great. ATT is from what I've heard from others in the area seems best.

shadowcaver....thanks for the reply....hopefully others will respond to. im not familiar with the areas your talking as im not there yet, are they more in the country or in town??? if we do move there, its for a forest service job, any of those areas you mentioned that have no service in the forest service area??
im being told that signals and towers etc are being built/improved, but they dont want to say when....lol, and i dont want to sign away another 2 yrs if i will basically never have a signal to be able to use our phones. we signed up with alltell 4 yrs ago, and never had a problem, yet since the buyout thru verizon, signals suck and service has gone down hill....which makes no sense since we are supposed to be using the same towers we always have....afraid it will be worse when the changeover is complete!!
might look into ATT if you say the service is better.....do you know how much better by chance???does anyone want to comment on ATT service in the area?? mainly in regards to town...country...forest service areas....we like to ride our harley and go for sundaydrives so to speak...and dont want to worry about no signal.
i welcome more input if anyone has any....thanks!!!!

All can say is that I've had Verizon and what its multiple predecessors where in that area for quite a few years... and as long as stayed w/in ~5 miles of town [not including the interstate], ya'd be good. Kinfolks and many friends in that area have either ATT/Cingular or Sprint. Verizon, while I've had great service and most great signal in other areas that travel/live, IMHO, does stink royally in the mid and southern part of MO. They've been claiming to expand service/towers for double-digit years in that area - and I ain't holding my breath... yet, business being business, maybe they don't see the profitability for that relatively lower persons per square mile area, coupled with rugged terrain, and an already built-in customer base tied to other providers - also if recall correctly, the Feds may limit them to certain areas, or a certain amount of coverage, so that may be an area that they 'give up' on. Being yas are going to be, I believe , quite abit out in the country besides just office, yas may indeed desire a provider that has stronger signals in them thar hollers, Phelps County and such.
Satisfaction of course will vary, based on type of phone itself, how its used, weather conditions, etc... but might also check out: Cell Phone Carriers - Cell Phone Service and Tower Search for some other recommendations.

Sweetlady71....good luck w/your search for cell 'phone service in the Rolla area. Just a quick question for ya...have you contacted anyone at the forest service where yu are interested in working? Perhaps someone within the organization can advise you directly. Again, good luck to you.

thanks for all the help....i did go ahead and look up things on ATT service...seems its good there for most part, only thing that sucks with that is the phone cost(1st free, other phones for family isnt, 36 buck per phone activation charge...etc etc...not to mention, cant make heads or tails of their plans.....tried talken to a salesman at radio shack and he basically blew me off, my friend was with me and she agreed....soon as he heard i was with alltell(cheaper) he ended it, she thinks its cuz he figured id not want to pay the higher cost compared to my plan now, i dont know...who knows.
so now, till we know for sure if got the job or not(any day now supposedly...lol a decesion should be made) we will wait and decide on who we stay with for cell company.
Thanks again for all the help....better then i got with the phone companies as usual.....lol
ya'll have a great day....and hopefully we will see ya soon!!!!
