ShadowCaver, would you know anything about local bee pollen--if you think that would work and if it might be available in north central Missouri?

Here in NorCal I just get clobbered with nasal allergies from late April through most of June each year but for the opposite reason--the winter rains stop, the grass turns brown and the grass pollen levels just go off the charts. I'll see if my nose agrees with the St. Louis atmosphere later this week--although weather.com says the grass pollen in STL is elevated right now.

Kareybear, I hope you are feeling much better very soon!

We drink a lot of iced tea and that's what we use to sweeten it so we're getting some of it daily that way. It can be used on toast or bisquits, to sweeten coffee, in baking, with butter on winter squash or simply take a couple of daily teaspoons or a tablespoon. Your mileage may vary! Just make sure the honey is as local as you can get so it will trigger your body's natural allergens as a defense against local pollens.

If you have farmer's markets that's a good place to start. Also, see if there's a store nearby that sells products to bee keepers. It could be a feed store and they might be able to direct you to a local honey producer. Where I am there's a honey store that also sells to producers and, in turn, makes their honey available for sale.

Farmers with orchards should also have some leads as they usually "rent" bees for pollination.

Everyone around here has been dying with allergies, but for some strange reason I haven't even had an itchy throat this year, even though my allergies are always worse than everyone else's. The only difference is that i'm not married anymore--maybe I'm allergic to marriage?

I never suffered from allergies at all until I moved to MO two years ago. I suspect that it's more a mold issue than a pollen issue for me, though, because it's definitely more humid here than where I'm from, so there are likely more mold spores kicking around.

Yay indeed! When you can't breathe, little else matters.
