I've only been through the area briefly. Lots of natural beauty and lots of poverty is the sense I have of it. But I don't know much about it.

a little info on Potosi
Potosi is a wonderful little town. Most people are nice. The main drawback is that there is a major drug production problem and that is main crime commented. There is a real small town feel and most people know each other. if you are thinking of moving here, make certain you can still follow your career choice.

I wouldn't consider Potosi. It's in the middle of an old mining area and I swear
a lot of folks are nutty because of it. Maybe it's the meth.
It's beautiful but very poor.

I have lived in the general Potosi, Mo. area most of my life. Some things you would need to know to help you make a decision about a move to the area. Others on this forum are correct in many of the things that they have written. There is alot of poverty. There is alot of drug activity much of that is due to the fact that there is such abundance of wooded areas in which to hid meth prodction or grow pot. At the same time there is a lot of natural beauty and small town charm in the surrounding area. There are several churches and a small hospital. You will find several small towns near by; The Village of Caledonia (which has a population of about 160 and is quiet rich with history), BismarcK, etc. Employment can be a problem. Although there are some jobs to be had in the area many are minimum wage type jobs. But there is the hospital, several doctor clinics and offices, Potosi Prison, the school. Many people commute to other cities as far as St. Louis or Cape Girardeau in order to earn a better living. There are 2 junior colleges each being approx. 30 min. drive. Farmington, Mo. is 25 miles from Potosi. It is a fair size city for our area, and is growing by leaps and bounds. It has much more to offer and is not that long of a drive to go shopping or eat out. Hopes this helps.

Irma Creamer - very good/honest post... From what I've seen/traveled through there [used to live in Bonne Terre], you hit it quite good.
Thanks and welcome to the forum...

If you're addicted to meth, you really should relocate there... Terrible public school system...
But at least if you get sentenced to maximum security, or get the death penalty in MO, you won't have far to go...

Very sad comments about Potosi. It is tragic and pathetic that Americans would let their town be stolen from them by these (meth addicts) parasites.
