Congrats to Thor on his finish in Rolla today - amazing, after racing 112 miles, and all the climbs, and to find your competitors to be w/in 0.20 of a second of you... wow. Or to turn it the other way, to find yourself in 2nd and 3rd place, only 0.20 seconds behind the winner.

Quote:
In a chaotic sprint after a day of serpentine climbing, sprinter Thor Hushovd (Cervelo Test Team) edged out Juan Jose Haedo (Saxo Bank) for the Stage 3, presented by Emerson, win today at the Tour of Missouri. Argentina's Haedo crossed the line with Italy's Dario Cataldo (Quick Step), both two/tenths of a second behind Hushovd. Hushovd finished in 4 hours, 26 minutes, 50.4 seconds.
PS: as posted earlier, check out Race Coverage Details - Tour of Missouri 2009 - Tour of Missouri 2009 for means to watch/listen to the race if can't be there live.

Well, darn it all, anyhow......missed it by 'that much'. Drove to Rolla w/DH because he was bored. Got there about 10 minutes too late. Had to go to a book store, one of the best, BTW, and guess I spent too much time there. Camera crews, crowds, all still there. Closed roads, etc. Parking would have been a big problem....would have had to walk many blocks and these two seniors....well, lets just say that that may not have been a good thing. ...Anyway, we went to Applebees, and had a very good meal. Sweet tea, I had the riblets and onion rings, DH had the Tilopia dinner. Arrived home refreshed, opened a bottle of St. James Winery Velvet Red and relaxed before evening chore time. Still sorry that we missed the event.

The Reader's Corner, by any chance? I love that place! I could spend too much time (and money) there if I wasn't careful!

I was at the finish line to watch the end of the stage. I went a couple of hours early to see the RHS band, and decided to stay to see the end. It was pretty interesting and exciting, even for someone who isn't into cycling (me).

An interesting article as the Rolla Daily News followed the cyclists from Farmington to Rolla:
A day following The Tour of Missouri - Rolla, MO - The Rolla Daily News

And a behind the scenes article from Rolla too:
Rolla hosts Tour of Missouri stage finish today - Rolla, MO - The Rolla Daily News

Neat look at some technology being used by the cyclists... w/ ties to our region:
Cutting-edge technology helps cyclists at Tour of Missouri - Kansas City Star

And an insiders view of the race/tour:
Living the Dream » Blog Archive » Tour of Missouri Rider Diary: Keeping Up With Columbia

Lastly, a couple very good looks at the politics/standings of this race, one that puts Missouri on the international stage:
Bike tour a winner for state, dogs - Kansas City Star
http://www.kansascity.com/637/story/1428509.html

PS: best to Cavendish who withdrew due to resp. infection, and to Vande Velde [broken wrist].
