Default Sikeston or Caruthersville area

I am thinking about moving to the Sikeston or Caruthersville area, in far southeastern Missouri. I would appreciate any insights on the area that people could give me. Thank you.

I dont really know that area all to well, but if you have not yet been there, you will notice it is a fairly old area. You will also get that feeling that your in the middle of nowhere and the culture is more of a southern town then midwest. The first thing I noticed quickly was the different accents there then we're used to in western Mo. Overall, I have not heard anything bad about the area at all. I have been to Sikeston, but not Caruthersville.

Thank you very much for the info. By saying it is an old area, I presume you mean the population is an aging one.

The area is known as the "bootheel" and is the northern extension of the Mississippi Delta agricultural area. Most of the land in that area is very flat. The area is also one of the poorest in MO with a lack of non-farm employment. It is also close to the New Madrid fault as well.

I have to ask, why are you so attracted to Sikeston? You have been asking about it for a couple of years now, and I gotta know....... why?
There is really not much there, take it from one who knows!

If you want a more rural setting in the same geographical region why not move to an exurban town closer to Memphis?

I am not sure, the area just fascinates me for some reason, being close to the huge meandering Mississippi River. It just seems like a place where a man could live his life full measure, instead of the crazy pace of life in so many other places.

By old I meant that there is, from what I noticed, no new buildings. The town looked to me like it probly was the exact same now as it was 20 years ago.

I dont need a whole lot of typical excitement. Just going to watch the mighty Mississippi and Ohio Rivers merge, crossing the huge bridges in the area, and exploring the area around the Mississippi (would I have to watch for snakes?), those are the things I would like to do.
