Default MO rental applications

So I'm looking at renting a new place after having owned, and then rented from someone who didn't require an inquisition....

Is it acceptable for a rental agent to ask one to state a reason for moving from previous address(es)? Intrusive but not a big deal.

What actually, really bothers me though...is providing my bank account number and branch, and also the name, address and phone # of creditors, including the amount of monthly payments I may have to provide them. Coupled with my bday and social on the same sheet of paper that is kinda scary i think. Anybody experience this with rental apps? Been awhile since I've rented so advice certainly appreciated.

I've known a couple people to suffer through the nighmare of 'identity theft,' so am cautious about what info to provide folks unless needed. I am not asking for legal advice, just wondering if others have shared a like experience or know whether to deny applying answers to particular questions.

they did forget to ask whether i was right or left handed though, which i found strange, and whether i prefered mono, hybrid or braid for fishing. bizarre....

When I moved here, one place even asked that we enclose a photo for "identification purposes." I thought that was very suspicious. I could see if I was definitely going to live there, they might want one, but to request one in the application seemed potentially discriminatory.
I have no idea what they are and are not allowed to ask...you can always not fill that part out but they don't have to rent to you, either.

wow, a picture even ha ha!?!

exactly what i was thinking, about not including some info, but as you stated, they can rent to whomever they choose.

literally a case of the 'show me state' when it comes to rental apps i guess. as much as i couldn't stand CA being over-regulated in so many ways, at least consumers seemed to be protected in this area.

Appears some of this stuff is kinda standard, after having went out and retrieved a few more apps. That first one dug a bit deeper than the others though. Guess it's just been awhile since I've had to rent, and from a company rather than an individual.

I can understand (to a degree) having a thorough screening process for tenants, but still shocked a bit that running a credit report and criminal background check is not sufficient enough info required of a prospective renter, beyond also including the expected employment and rental history. I'd just as soon have gone through a personal interview.

i could get a conceal & carry permit for a handgun much easier out here and without providing half the info, which is funny but kinda bizarre.

And it'll only get worse in the future. Imagine fingerprinting, retina scans, blood/hair analysis, mandatory vaccinations, bodily measurements, and IQ tests to name but a few. It may sound absurd now, but with a little propaganda all will be justified and whosoever questions this madness will be considered weird and suspicious. July 4th should be a day of mourning.
