It's a COE lake, undeveloped. The water is clear, that's for sure. Much more so than Wapapello to the west. Good bass fishing lake. Worth visiting.
As far as the area goes, there are no art galleries, ballets, vegan dining, yoga training classes, gourmet coffee houses or independent bookstores.
Just FYI for Californians.

Missourians will, thanks to us and SpanielGirl, start voting ****Progressive*****.....BWAH-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha!!! Just kidding.
No vegan dining near Clear Water Lake, huh? ( Eric eats another forkful of top sirloin steak he bought on sale for $2.79 per pound at Raley's...) Surely there must be some tai chi classes! Otherwise I will have to....What, dear? Mrs. NBE is wondering if there are any belly dancing courses nearby. Anyhoo, we've decided to look someplace else other than Clear Water Lake for our next Zen meditation retreat.
O.B., if you're reading this, we're just funnin' you! Laughing with you, never at you. MoNative knows!

Clearwater Lake is very beautiful, along with the surrounding area. It is at the southern end of the St. Francois Mountains...the town of Piedmont itself is quite charming and has nice views of the mountains from its main street. The lake itself was built in the 1940's as a flood control structure, and as a result the water level tends to chagne quite a bit.
However, a former coworker of mine lived in Piedmont for a few years and said the locals were very slow to accept outsiders. I can imagine that to be the case in Wayne and Reynolds counties, which probably receive very little transplants from other areas.
