It's really really the middle of nowhere. Unless you want to be in some isolated land in the Ozarks, I can't think of any reason for anyone to ever live there. Most people are just too poor or/and scared to move.

Its a rugged, good, and scenic area, with people inhabiting the land to match. Like most smaller, "isolated" areas, there is not much employment opportunities,,, and the locals may usually take some time to warm up to outsiders - as has been stated in other threads/forums. However - IMHO, its up to an individual, such as you've posted about yourself here , to prove themselves, and I'd say that ya'd have little problems. Just curious, what brings your sights upon Fredtown?

My post was partially inaccurate. There is a ton of natural areas in the area Johnston SHut Ins, Taum Sauk Mountain and the Ozark trail will be growing in the coming years. If you like nature and don't mind country living, it's probably not so bad. I guess I just had too much coffee lol

thanks for the input, and in answer to why, just tired to city life, high crime, layoffs, dog eat dog, ready for slower pace and love the outdoors and kids are grown and fine, wouldnt be too far for them to visit and have a pal in farmington and a another girlfriend in ILL that had lived here and loved it.
just ready for a change and if it doesnt work, on to the next chapter!! thanks again

Fredericktown could use some new blood IMHO, C'mon down! It's a beautiful area with spots like Silver Mines, Mill Stream Gardens and Amidon. Great hiking, hunting and good fishing. Very senic and not to far from Cape.
The locals are good folks for the most part, it is a poorer community with a per capita income of just over 20K annually but I am seeing a few newcomers
who are changing that trend.
I own land in the area and visit on odd weekends whenever time permits. I am noticing some growth and expect Ftown to continue to grow just at a slower pace than most.
The courthouse was designed by the same guy who did St. Louis Union Station, it's a classic!

thx and a quick clear on my original post, feeling like it was, well heck it was deceiving, but really didnt want to stand out, since they are few newcomers! Actually took the plunge a few months ago and did move here, I am fitting it, I feel very welcome everywhere I go, I totally love that over city ways, slow pace does take getting used to, getting acclimated under not so good circumstances, but my roommate is not liking it at all, so strugglin with do I hang on my own by a tread and start anew here, or head back to the city for good, tough call, still pondering!!

Hard-working decent people seeking a simple life are always welcome in rural Missouri.
City folk seeking only cheap land who move to Missouri and immediately start complaining of culture shock because they can't find any "serious shopping" or a Starbucks or a Trader Joe's or countless other city "amenities" are always resented.
Well, resented by me anyway. But you'll survive that.

Fredericktown is a nice little town. I grew up in the country, just outside of Fredericktown. Went to school and graduated from there. In my opinion, they are a very welcoming community. It is desperately in need of some fresh air. Some of the pros are sense of community pride, beautiful location (nestled in Mark Twain Ntl. Forest), inexpensive mortgage/rentals, and low crime.Cons would be like Inoxkeeper says, lower income levels. My two brothers who live there have to drive 30 plus miles to be paid just a little more than the minimum. This is the story for lots of folks. However, if you find a job in the construction industry or maybe the State you could be really comfortable. Home based business opportunities are also handy (homemade goods, etc.) money makers.Good luck to you!

I have lived in Fredericktown for a little over 5 years now, and I love it. Rarely do you find yourself in a situation where your not welcome, and everyone, for the most part, is friendly! Yes, the town does need more opportunity for work, but you see that just about anywhere you go. The schooling is decent, kids stay out of trouble for the msot part and its a great place to raise a family and enjoy life!
