Louisiana is a beautiful town with lots of history on the banks of the Missisippi, south of Hannibal and north of St. Louis. It's very small - less than 5,000 so there are not the same ammenties you would find in a larger town or city area.
It is not, however, a suburb of anything, just a small town with its' ups and downs, good points and bad. It's a little more than 70 miles to St. Louis, about 50 to St. Peters which are the closest places of any size. The surrounding area is very rural.
There is a Catholic church, St. Joseph's, but I don't believe any parochial schools.
I would suggest visiting it before you decide whether or not you want to live there.
I've never lived there but I have old family ties there. Personally I find it a lovely and pictuersque place to visit but I wouldn't choose to live there.
