Overall, which smaller Missouri city, outside of St. Louis and Kansas City, do you like best?

Cape Girardeau has been listed as one of the 25 best places to retire by Money magazine.

Tie for me between Columbia and Springfield... have not spent enough time in Cape to really get that much of a feel for that cool historic place, but really like going to either Springfield or Columbia - different towns, different feel, but like 'em both the best. Voted Springfield.

I've visited all but Cape Girardeau, but of the rest St. Joseph is definitely my favorite. It's adorable.

I've visited all of these cities except for Joplin. I can't exactly throw stones at any of them, but as Christina wrote, St. Joe has a tremendous charm to it. Longtime C-D readers know I've wanted to relocate to St. Joe for a long time. When our house wouldn't sell out here, it seemed like a sign from Up Above telling us to be happy and grateful for the things we do have, and to enjoy the city as visitors. And this way we can come when it's around 80 above instead of 17 below, like it was one frigid evening earlier this month in St. Joe. Brrrr. http://bestsmileys.com/cold/9.gif (broken link)

Its topography of rolling hills, and its museums, lovely old streets like Ashland Ave., Lover's Lane, the parkway system, antique places like the Rusty Chandelier, proximity to the Missouri River, and its colorful history (the Pony Express and the outlaw Jesse James) really make St. Joe a hidden treasure that's still too much in Branson's shadow IMO. Mrs. Northbayeric and I are tentatively aiming for our next Missouri romp in roughly late spring 2011. Maybe we can stop in the Joplin area and see the Precious Moments place and whatever else it offers by then!

Well I wouldn't consider Springfield small.I found it a toss up between Springfield and Clumbia.I voted Sprinfield because at this time it has more to offer. If you would have asked me ten years ago I would have said Columbia.

Only two I have been to is Cape and Columbia. Cape is nice. Chose Columbia because of the neat downtown and college football.

I have been to Springfield several times and liked it. My next door neighbor is originally from Springfield so...I guess it's Springfield for me!
