Columbia would be the smallest community that would welcome that sort of world-view in Missouri. It is about as liberal as we get in the Midwest. But you'll still have to suffer the fall Bambi masacre that may offend your animal rights sensibilities, 'cause that is some of the best deer hunting in the state - they grow 'em big in Central Missouri.

Columbia is the only small city in the state that meets that criteria. It is surrounded by conservative/redneck small towns though.

I would say STL and Columbia would be your best bets.

Where would we find the most welcoming community in Missouri for this kind of mindset? Are there any small-to-mid-sized towns in Missouri where we would fit in pretty well? What's the status of St. Louis?
Thanks!

Hey.. Im a gun toting policeman and my wife and I subscribe to everyone of the things in the post... and we're vegan to boot...and we are far from liberal
It doesn't matter what others think..fedex and a good garden can support a healthy lifestyle anywhere... it is a drag to have neighbors that shoot and hunt... but perhaps good country living can offset that negativity.

You may want to consider moving to Canada or Australia if that is how you really feel. This is America...guns are fun, hunting is fun, shooting is fun!
I was at the recent NRA event held in St. Louis, from the attendance it appears 99.9% of other Missourian's feel the same way.

I think I would do a search - like through google and find an area that way ..Is there clubs for this?
I know that probably sounds stupid but I am married to a hunter and there are hunting lodges ..maybe you can find one of those in a animal rites type thingy ... I really don't know.
But i would think that the Midwest is not one of those areas you are looking for. My opp ion would be big city's ...
If you are animal rights activist ... does that mean you are a vegan as well?
Just curious because I really don't get it.
I can see people not abusing animals but ... God put them here to be part of the circle. Good Luck on your search.

If you want to live off the grid I don't think St. Louis will be for you. Kansas
city probably won't work either and Columbia is the apex of education in
Missouri and they are busy pumping out yuppees not hippies. That sort of
faded in the 60's and 70's even though it is alive and well in some parts of
the country. I grew up in Missouri and there are plenty of red-necks to
go around to be sure but there are also some pretty sharp and well
educated people. I now live in New Mexico and there are plenty of people
living off the grid and read the good earth magazine on a regular basis.
Most of the people who are doing this are hermits and are trying to escape
society and are not progressive at all. I would call them modern day hippees
even though they might like that lable. Oregon is another good mecca for
such a life style and I would think that New Hampshire and Vermont might
be good as well abeit a little colder. I did however have to use our local
laundry matte the other day and there was a family there that said they
lived off the grid and were proud of it. After looking at all their missing
teeth they apparently havn't found a off the grid dentist. They said when
they got hungry they just stepped out to the back porch and shot a deer
or elk. Now that might be progressive because they saved gas by not
going to the grocery store but they are probably in violation of the local
hunting laws.

NRA lifer here too. Have you checked out the Missouri Concealed Carry Gun Permit and Firearms Information Website site? I sure was glad to come across this site for up to date info regarding the truly progressive way Missourians are looking at firearms and self defense legislation in this state.
