I grew up in Cameron, then left for about 30 yrs and moved around the world. Now we are back, and like Dorothy said...There is no place like home
It is the best of both worlds, has enough here for day to day living, and is close enough to larger places that is an easy trip. Safe, clean, good schools, friendly folks.

Columbia...Not too big, not too small. Restaurants, VA hospital, theatres, great shopping malls, fascinating down town section. Major highways leading in all directions. Old residential areas as well as newer construction. Areas nearby with small acreage and lovely older homes.

Default The lakes...of course!

It sounds crazy if you haven't been here, but I think the Branson area is the best place to LIVE in Missouri! I love visiting St. Louis and Hermann and other parts of this great state, but overall THIS is where I chose.

The beauty, the available amenities, the economic growth, the diversity of people from all over the country...the lakes!

There's a lot more to the area than just the 4 mile hub of The Strip.
Although you certainly don't want to miss some of that hilarity!

The Lake area is a favorite of mine. Years ago, like a million, I wanted to move there after a few visits. Even had the C of C send brochures, etc. to us. But then we built this place and never could get my DH to move. So that's why I mentioned Columbia. Which is fine, depending upon what you're looking for and at what stage of your life you are in.

Yes, your area is one of the very best. Lucky person, you are.

What a great thread! It's amazing how LITTLE of the state I actually saw all those years growing up just over the River, but we trekked to either Branson or Lake of the Ozarks just about every year for vacation and I spent a year at CofO and Point Lookout, so I'd have to say Branson is STILL the most beautiful place I've ever seen.....crazy development or not. We learned the backroads and where you could 'park' down by the dam at midnight and not get caught! LOL. I swear we drove every inch of every road of that area while in school. Had friends whose parents owned a trailer out in Rockway Beach <sp> but their main home was in Tulsa. So whenever they weren't there....we'd be there...sometimes for the whole weekend. No drugs, little bit of drinking but lots of fun. I think they knew, but we always cleaned up well and never broke anything and they left the place stocked with food for us so it was heaven for us college kids!

I love being in St. Louis right now to explore all of the things I wanted to as a kid and never got to. I like being able to catch the Metro to a Cardinal game or take the dog to Forest Park. We haven't had the money yet since we've been back to REALLY do the exploring (and spending) what we want, but that day will come. It's not a bad drive to see my family and friends over in IL so I can't think of anywhere I'd rather be right now!

But I can't wait to go visit Hermann, Hanibal, Springfield and all of the other lovely places people are mentioning over the years!

Yes they did, I've been lookin' for a place to land since May, I was even in your area last May, I kinda' like the Cassville rural area. I've got it narrowed down between Casseville, Exeter, Wheatland, Walnut Grove, ash Grove area, I could be to a nice lake in 20 -25 min.

I'm thinking the unknown great secret area is around Rolla????
