We haven't been to the Cracker Barrel in Springfield, yet. We'll get there soon. I'm gonna try their grits (first time for me!) and now, their sweet tea! We went to the Cracker Barrel in Joplin last year when we were looking to buy and loved our meal! We didn't even know there was one in Springfield since it is "off our beaten path" but someone here in the forum mentioned it and I've since learned it is on Glenstone. I don't usually go up very far north on that street so hadn't seen it...or noticed it when I did. Anyway, thanks for the reminder!

Lambert's Cafe in Sikeston is located on the I-55 exit for U.S. 62 I believe. Take U.S. 62 about a quarter mile to a mile west of I-55. Btw, when I was talking about Springfield, I meant Springfield, Illinois...Cracker Barrels are quite common in the lower midwest and south now and have been that way for quite some time I believe. They are even becoming common in the Upper Midwest. But Springfield, Missouri without a doubt has one I would guess. I'm going to be visiting my grandmother's grave tomorrow to pay my respects in Monett in a few days so I'll be passing through Springfield on I-44. It would GREATLY surprise me if Springfield didn't have a Cracker Barrel.

Yep, they've got one, ajf! It's right at I44 and Glenstone Avenue. That's in the NE corner of Springfield, right at the Glenstone offramp which is the first offramp west of Hwy. 65, leading to Branson. If you happen to be traveling further south on Hwy. 60, I recommend taking Hwy. 65 north towards I44 but then getting off the highway before you get to I44 since there is some serious work being done on the on and off ramps and you could run into trouble. I don't have reason to be up that way so I haven't seen it. Anyway, Kearney is the last offramp before I44 and if you take it, go west over (or under?) the freeway until you get to Glenstone and then turn right onto Glenstone until just before I44. It will be on your left side, according to the map.
In case it helps anyone else reading this, here's a link to the map at Rand McNally - Maps, Driving Directions, Travel Store
Rand McNally - Get a Map
By the way, the address is 2858 N Glenstone Ave. and their phone number is (417) 831-4600.

Pretty much the only places in the U.S. you will find it are obviously in the Midwest since that is where it originated (in Bloomington-Normal, Illinois), maybe the Easternmost Great Plains states, and of course, the mid-South. Steak 'n Ale?? i've never heard of the place...what is it, a Steak 'n Shake that serves ale instead of shakes? Cracker Barrels are everywhere now. The lower Midwestern states have had them for quite awhile and they exist as far north as Minnesota now. Waffle Houses have made it up to Missouri, Indiana, Ohio, and Pennsylvania. Illinois has only two and they are in the St. Louis metro area. Strange how Waffle Houses are so numerous now throughout all of Ohio, Indiana, and Missouri yet Illinois has none. In Northeast Ohio there are five waffle-houses surrounding Cleveland and several more in Toledo, and they are on the verge of spreading into Michigan now. Most of the historically Southern chain restaurants are also in the Midwest now. Columbus, Cincinnati, Indianapolis, St. Louis, and Kansas City now all have between 10 and 17 immediately surrounding them in their metro areas. And again, Cleveland and Toledo have between 3 to 5 in their metro areas. Yet almost of all of Illinois has none....don't you find that strange when so much of Indiana, Missouri, and Ohio contain them? I know I do...

Steak 'n Ale, no, lol,,, its a sit down restaurant, semi-upper-middle kinda place; we went there on special occasions - good steaks and salad bar.
As to Waffle House - yea, those are greasy, nasty, dirty,,, but gooooood! Esp. at 2am! Funny, there are Huddle Houses spreading around too - take off of the WH, same kinda greasy place, but with a goofy name.
Had some guys visit from Salt Lake City up here in NE Indiana, they had never heard of Steak 'n Shake... so, of course, had to take them there.
Oh, what I love also that is a roasted beef sandwich that can find only in the StL and a few other select areas - Lion's Choice-Famous Roast Beef - but, they are expanding! Now,,, where did I lay that $2 million at?

Just came across your posts about Cracker Barrel & Lamberts. 2 of my favorite restaurants. (Haven't read the entire thread)
We'd visited our first Cracker Barrel when we were in NC, and it was fantastic!!! I've never had a bad meal there. Their Chicken Soup is Out Of This World!!! I love their breakfasts too...they give you a TON!!! When we were driving back here to MO for our move, hubby made a list of every Cracker Barrel on our way. Wasn't that sweet??? Although I did find out that they have free pocket sized maps of every location. We managed to hit 2 of them. The location closest to our new home will be the one in Springfield, on Glenstone.
Then yesterday....we made our first trip to Lambert's in Ozark. That place is 'Da Bomb'!!! There is absolutely NO WAY for someone to leave hungry. They'll toss piping hot rolls to you anytime, and they have people walking around with side dishes like Black Eyed Peas, Fried Okra, Fried Potatos, & Macaroni & Tomato, and that's in addition to what came with your meal. I especially enjoyed the Sorgum Molasses they had to put on the rolls. Mmmmmm! No Fried Pickles tho.
But, like MrsG says...the lines are Looooooong Loooooong!!! It's a pretty big place tho. Still, our wait was about 50 Mins. The good thing is that they have tons of parking, so thats nice. All in all....Great Food, Awesome atmosphere & great service....definitely worth the wait! Oh, and they have a gift shop too.
Just my 2 cents,
Boof

So, you sound like a woman of good taste, Boof! I think that was worth more than 2 cents, though. I'll give you a dollar! Hahaha!
Gotta get up there to that Cracker Barrel! I'll remember what you said about their chicken soup and their breakfasts. Yumm!
I haven't been back to Lambert's in awhile and keep meaning to call and ask whether they will allow us to share a meal. Maaan, that's a lot o' food! GOOD food...but a lot of it!!!
If you haven't gone to Heather Hill Farms yet, I recommend it. It is a little store right behind Lambert's. You can just walk over from Lambert's upper parking. It is a good way to spend your time while waiting to be called for your table when it's busy. They have wine and cheese tasting all the time. Yes, you heard me right...ALL the time...AND...it's FREE! Hahaha!
On the second Thursday of the month, from 5pm to 7pm, I think, they have a special event where some of their other food products can also be sampled. There are other nice stores in that same strip mall and beyond, that make for a nice thing to do after you've eaten your meal and want to walk some of it off.
Here's a link to their website: Heather Hill Farms
I'm thinking of changing my ID here to The Link Lady! Hahaha! I can't help myself! I'm compelled!
Anyway, lemme know if ya go there and enjoy it!

I was there but I completely forgot to mention Lambert's cafe to my dad when were in Springfield. We wound up at a Texas Roadhouse instead, but I got my fill of barbecue and sweet tea. We kind of were more down there to visit my grandmother's gravesite in Monett. You were right about Springfield and Joplin btw, when I was there I heard little if any Southern speech patterns. Southeast Missouri is like a completely different world. However me and my dad are possibly planning a trip to Southern California, so that means that likely in about a month we will be passing through Springfield once again on I-44, this time on our way to connect to I-40 in Oklahoma City. So I definitely will try and make sure we try to stop by then.

Dear Mrs. LinkLady, (hehehehe )
As of yesterday, Lambert's still has a request to not share meals. However, I'm sure once you tell them WHO you are, they'll make an exception!!! Just have them call me if they insist on verification. You can't unstate the fact that you get a lot of food there. But, at least they do give out doggie bags...even though the menu suggests otherwise.
Thanks for the link to Heather Hill Farms...even the name sounds neat. Sounds like hubby & I are going to have to go on a Taste Testing Tour. hehehe Dang, if one were to read all my posts, it looks as though I'm not gonna be doing anything but EAT for the next month!!! I'm gonna need a forklift to get me back into the house. LOLOLOL Heck, if I'm gonna go to all that trouble, maybe I'll just call myself a Food Critic and get this stuff for free. hehehe hahahaha
I'll call Cracker Barrel and let 'em know yer on your way.

Oh, good for you! I'm sure your Dad will love it! With their ambiance, it's such an event! Texas Roadhouse has some great food but it's too noisy for my husband and I. We prefer Logan's Roadhouse which is on Battlefield in Springfield...not too far from Bass Pro Shop, as a matter of fact. One of my favorite things to order there is their Onion Brewski™ Sirloin. Their description: "Our signature 8-ounce USDA Choice sirloin stacked on top of Michelob AmberBock® beer-braised onions, smothered with garlic butter and topped with crispy onions." CAN WE TALK???!!! Shyeah! That's what I'M talkin' 'bout! If you want to know more, Logan's Roadhouse is their website.

Hahaha! You're funny, Boof! And did you notice that I did it again with ajf? I just feel that it is easy for me to add a link, easier than it is for most people to look things up, so I do!
Thank you for the Lambert's info! For me, finding a link online is easier than picking up the phone to call and I just knew that if they DID allow it, there would be a sharing fee. I mean, with all the food going around the room, an entire table might be able to share a meal! Hahaha! I don't know about you but I'm lookin' forward to some more of those 2nd best fried potatoes in the world!
SEVEN PEOPLE! Yikes! You must be some organizer! It sounds like you'll all be exhausted when you get home! Have fun! I'll pray for your safety and direction!
I look forward to hearing from you when you're back home and rested up!

THe weird thing about Texas Roadhouse was that it originated in Indiana...lol...can you think of two more different states than Indiana and Texas? That would be the same thing as Minnesota starting a Louisiana Roadhouse LOL And there is one Texas Roadhouse in St. Louis. However it does not have sweet tea to my knowledge.
