lol at you for thinking everything I say is in the literal sense and is going to apply 100% of the time. That's a rough estimation of the boundary...Cape Girardeau, Joplin, and Springfield all roughly lie along Highway 60 yet they are not Southern. Below Highway 60, things start to change. It's more half and half if anything if you live near this area. Highway 60 becomes a meaningless boundary the closer it gets to the Ohio River. Around Highway 60 is where the transition zone between the midwest and the south ends/begins. It's a rough estimation, and is not going to apply in every single category. It doesn't immediately change 5 miles to the north or south of this highway, but definitely i would say 40 or 50 miles to the north or south.

Missoura is not an indication of southern-ness. I hear people say it all the time that have perfectly flat accents. Jay Nixon says it...Matt Blunt says it...Senator Jack Danforth says it...my grandmother said it...all of them spoke with fairly flat accents.

In terms of age structure, and diversity of population, MO is similar to those four states.

Well, I lived quite close to MO for over 20 years, and have traveled extensively in Missouri, Ohio, Kentucky, Michigan, and Wisconsin. Sure you may have some differences between the four states, but they have more in common than any in the Great Plains realm.
