Kimberling City was named after the Kimberling family, of course, but was originally named Radical. I love that!! Kimberling City, Missouri - kimberlingcity.com
My Dad lives near Uncertain, TX. The townspeople hadn't made up their minds on what to name the town, so they wrote uncertain on the form and mailed it in. The town became Uncertain, TX!!

There is a road up out of Akers on the Current River that I have heard called the Devil's Elbow. The road snakes along a ridge with a big drop on both sides.

The above post reminded me of a road near Birch Tree, names Devil's Backbone. The road led back to Rymer's Ranch and down to Jack's Fork river where we would go swimming. There was this place where you crested a high hill to drive 200 feet or so to next hill. The road was only about 12 feet wide and you could look far down into the valley's on both sides, no shoulder visable. Took a steady driving hand and slow speed.

A few additional interesting places in Missouri:
Old Peculiar and also a Peculiar
Old Evening Shade and also an Evening Shade
Old Woollam and also a New Woollam
Even an 'Old Town'
Many towns and place names with animal names, such as:
Cow Hill, Buffalo, Dog Hollow, Cat Creek, Horse Creek, Bird's Corner, Doe Run, Deer, Deer Creek, Hornet, Hawk Point. And the list goes on and on. Many creeks and hollows named after animals and/or feathered critters and aquatic life.

Weaubleau?
One of my ancestors, Rev. John Whitaker, founded Weablo (original spelling). Does anyone know the history?
