For me mo is truly a very good place. You picked a great spot to move to.I am from the mean streets of the east coast and i gotta tell ya it was culture shock for 4 years.lol,lol..
I tryed St.Loius and Kansas City and i hated all of the drugs, hookers, shootings, gangs and violance.People i never dreamed off were into so much darkness.I was in NY all over again and hated all i seen.I had to make another change.
I found myself out in Hallsville MO..Just outside columbia MO.What a blessing it was..PEACE AND QUIT FINALLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I live like a king here in hallsville and people are so very nice here.Unreal affordible living and taxes are dirt cheap.I have a nice home and yard and people here take care of there property and keep it nice.I have a 90,000 home THATS A CASTLE and the taxes are 800.00 bucks a year.In NY this home would be 300,000 and 8,000 for taxes and no yard, around A BUNCH OF gang bangers and drugs and hookers, not to mention gun fire..
I make 160,000 a year and its unreal that i can afford vacations, harleys, nice furniture, nice cars and have money in my savings and retirenment.I went to florida twice this year and i am planning a cruise soon. Its nice that my hard working money i earn goes 5 times further than the big city living. In the ''BIG CITY'S'' i was BROKE all the time...
I love CENTRAL MO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!GREAT PLACE TO LIVE AND SCHOOLS ARE GREAT.....
bye bye big city lights, hello small town america.I wish i would of did this 30 years ago...
Good Luck to you here in central mo.I hope all works out good for you..Very nice place to live and retire....
Hello, let me start by saying everyone is pretty much right. Ft. Leanordwood is a small town and the closest "big" town would be Rolla, Mo (about 20 miles from Ft. Leanordwood). I am actually neighbors with people who are stationed in Ft. Leaonardwood. Anyways, I currently am a student at the University of Missouri-Science & Technology which is in Rolla, MO. There is stuff to do around here just get used to not being in a big city. I am from St. Louis and it is definitely a big culture shock but I must say I like it.
As far as a place to live there are some ok places. It took me a while to lease the place I am currently in and I really do like it. Good Luck!

Wow! Its finally here! My last day/night in Australia! We board the plane tomorrow and head off to San Fransisco for a few days...then on to St Robert Mo!!
WE have now found a stunning rental property that I wish I could bring back home with me when I come back. Complete with verandah and place to put the flag!
Im so excited!!
I personally can't wait to hear what you think when you get here, please continue to update!
I live in Kansas City, MO and have been all over the state. I think you'll really like it.
For someone who is moving as far away as you are from home and friends, I applaud your open mind and friendly nature. You will get along just fine here and will make friends fast.

Let us know your favorite meals so far!
Same here--I want to hear. I think the weather will be a bit of a shock since it's going on summer in Oz.
You need to come back, now that the Bulger era is over and Sam the Ram is in charge the dome is rockin' again. I was at the Redskins and Chargers games and you couldn't hear yourself think it was so loud.
Tailgating? You guys are all in one big lot, if the wind blows the right way of course the smoke will be in your stadium. The Rams tailgate crowd is scattered thru small lots all around the dome, you may be surprised at the total.
I am glad to see both MO teams doing well this year. It will make the upcoming Chiefs / Rams game a lot more fun.
I've seen them play man. It's all televised. They've improved but I wouldn't say they're back yet. It's pretty clear when you watch the two teams that the Chiefs are further along that the Rams are at this point. Like I said, the Rams are improving but their record also looks better due to the fact that they're playing in the weakest division in the entire NFL. The buzz is that the Rams could have a losing record and still end up winning their division. That's how bad the NFC West is right now.
Couldn't hear yourself think? Well, I've been in that stadium when the Rams were setting the world on fire so I've seen it at it's best and I can tell you that even then it doesn't compare to the noise generated at Arrowhead at a sold out Chiefs game. Many say it's the loudest stadium in the NFL and it doesn't even have the benefit of a roof over it to amplify the crowd like the dome. That's sayin' something right there son.
Like I said before, I have been there plenty of times. The lots for the Rams are right by the dome. If they were generating the kind of smoke they do at the Chiefs games it would be noticeable but it's not. There are a lot of stadiums set up the way Arrowhead but NO OTHER has EVER shut down a game because of barbecue smoke.
You can try to downplay that all you want but the simple fact of the matter is that STL football fans simply aren't cut from the same cloth as Chiefs fans. That's why they lost their first team in STL. Lack of support. The Chiefs are located in a much smaller metro yet they went something like 20 years consecutive selling out seats at a much larger stadium than the dome. The Rams, nor the Cardinals before them, ever came close to accomplishing that.
The fact of the matter is that the Chiefs are one of the oldest franchises in the NFL. They have a lot more tradition than the Rams do and a fanbase that's been at it a whole lot longer. You simply can't compare the two. More often than not the Rams can't sell out their stadium even though it's a much smaller venue. Chiefs fans are out there in droves even if it's 10 degrees outside (without the protection of a dome) and the team has no chance of making the playoffs.
None of that is a knock on the Rams or their fanbase. However, if you're gonna compare the two to decide which has the better gametime atmosphere the winner of that contest is clearcut and it ain't the Rams.
I met an ol' boy once from St. Louis. He seemed like he had some common-sense. I'm not saying he was typical, but there may be other St. Louisans like him. I don't know if you have to go downtown to find them or if they're in the suburbs. I suspect he was a rarity.
Being from the Ozarks (also based on some of your previous posts I've seen), I'd say it's likely that your version of common sense = you must be intolerant towards others not like yourself, foul mouthed, have a strong disdain for anyone with an advanced education, and base who their voting for in elections entirely on things like stance on gun control and whether it's okay to fly a confederate flag over government installations. With that being said, I am sure that occasions where you encounter someone from STL that you deem as having "common sense" are very rare indeed.
