Default Here in Columbia, now what?

I drove from Denver to Columbia, and arrived tonight. If I don't like it here,
I plan to continue onward to Edwardsville, which is a small town on the East metro side of STL. I plan to look around tomorrow and try to get a feel for
Columbia. Will someone give me a sketch of how the areas of Columbia break down? Where is the new housing? Where is the high-end homes? Where is
the seedy parts? In what direction is the growth heading? I am really new
to Columbia and have not done a bit of research. Most of my research is
actually focused on Indiana which I figured was going to be my destination.
Indiana has many affordable housing markets. But if I like Columbia I would
just as happily stay here instead. Thanks for your time.

Can't help with Columbia, but I live in Indiana, and can tell you housing prices are low here statewide. Indy area is higher than the rest, but still reasonable. Not sure what else yu are looking for, but I live in Fort Wayne, and find cost of living pretty low. Not a bad town either. Good luck with your travels!

I dont know about Indiana or Columbia but Edwardsville I do .. I live by it now.

My question is what price range of a home are you looking ..are you relocating in business etc?

Edwardsville built a new high school few years back ..taxes are high and homes are poppin there in the amounts of 300,000 and up ... its nothing to see 600,000 as a price tag........and you better believe property tax is high!

Both the places you named are College towns. Are you aware of this?

ColumbiaTribune.com | The Columbia Daily Tribune - Columbia, MO

While there, if you like pizza, try Shakespear's.
For other good vittles/microbrew, try Flat Branch Pub.

I do not live in Columbia but work here daily (at the University of Missouri) and am somewhat familiar with the area. Lots to do here. My niece just bought a home on the northeast side of town and a very nice subdivision. On the cul-de-sac she bought on there were three other new homes vacant. She paid $165,000 for a very nice, new three bedroom, 2 bath, full basement home. If you have access to a computer go to realtor.com and do a search for Columbia, Missouri to get an idea of available housing. There are tons of houses listed in this area. As I said, there is lots to do here plus three colleges. Most of the students are not around right now because it is between sessions. When they are here things are really popping. I am not into the bar scene but there are several here that are very popular. Job opportunities abound too with the colleges, three hospitals, and loads of other manufacturing/service business and just about anything you could think of. Do a internet search to find you a good realtor and they can really, really help you out with best areas to settle in and information like that. I am also a new realtor but not in Columbia so not really all that familiar with that type of information. Good luck on your search!

Carolyn
