Boxing and MMA are two entirely different sports.

GSP didn't want to fight Anderson Silva, Anderson Silva didn't want to fight Jon Jones, Mayweather has beaten great fighters, good fighters, he can't fight everybody, the only fighter he didn't fight is Pacquiao but Mayweather is on another level compared to him, already beat Marquez and made him look ordinary but Marquez knocked out Pacquiao. Still waiting to see a great fighter in MMA who remains undefeated for 2 decades like Floyd but nobody has come close. He has mastered his sport. It's time for a fighter from MMA to master his sport.

ya know what you never see. go into the Boxing Forum, and you wont see any MMA fans starting up threads or making posts about how much better MMA is than boxing (which it is) but we don't have to say it - and we certainly don't need to go trolling in Boxing Forums in order to make ourselves feel better about a sport that we love but are freaked out I guess by its apparent falling off in popularity and the apparent rise of something else.

to the OP, PM Lexus on the boxing forum. you should get all the corroboration you need to feel good about boxing.

as for this. Anderson Silva went undefeated as the UFC Middleweight Champion for about 7 years. he certainly mastered his sport. however, he was never my favorite MMA/UFC Fighter. most MMA fans are concerned primarily with the overall health and entertainment value of the sport, unlike you, who apparently need a personal hero to attach yourself to.

its actually refreshing to see Anderson Silva out of the MW title picture, at least for a while, because when it comes to current champion, Chris Weidman (who is a great fighter) vs. top contender, Vitor Belfort (or Lyoto Machita) we don't know what will happen. this is more exciting to anticipate and watch than Anderson Silva vs. well....whomever he's going to knock out - no matter how hard the UFC tries to sell them as the perfect guy to beat someone like Anderson Silva.

all of these UFC fighters, they come and they go ( Houston Alexander, Shane Carwin, etc...), some of them only last a few fights, 7 years is nothing, same thing will happen with Chris Weidman, it's actually embarrassing that a guy with only 11 wins defeated a guy with so much experience and defeated him standing up, just like Brock Lesnar defeated Randy Couture, lame excuse MMA fans make when they say Randy Couture was too old when only a year before that he defeated Tim Sylvia who is the size of Brock Lesnar, he wasn't too old for that? he wasn't too old for Brandon Vera, how the hell did Brock Lesnar defeat Randy Couture in boxing when Brock has 0 experience in that and Randy Couture used to box in the military? that's embarrassing. a lot of MMA is a gimmick. You can put 2 ordinary guys who don't have a professional fighting record in anything or amateur and give them gloves, and put them in the octagon or ring and it can be a very exciting fight with Joe Rogan announcing the fight and making it sound technical like they are the best at what they do, while they have 0 professional fights in any discipline, a lot of MMA is a gimmick, they would lose if they went against an olympic wrestler, they would lose if they went against a professional boxer, they just know a lot of disciplines mediocre at best and use that, mediocre guys, yes I am aware that some were professional in a discipline but that's just a few, you can teach a guy a discipline but only a very few have the ability to master it, it takes a lifetime to master just 1, pro boxers, wrestlers, etc... You can give a guy a hardcore nickname and a mohawk with a tattoo on his head, it means nothing, and now he's the best boxer?---- Joe Rogan said this in a UFC ppv event for one of Chuck Liddel's fights that Liddel was the best boxer even compared to pro boxers, LOL.
