MMA fights are more energy taxing than boxing. A lot more ways to lose in MMA than in boxing.

Depending on the experience level a fight can be 3 to 5 rounds of 3 mins.

Muay Thai incorporates more tools than boxing. Punches, elbows, knees, kicks, sweeps, etc. Also, the scoring system is different. If you don't engage then your opponent might win points if they are seen as the aggressor. This leads to both fighters being on the attack mode.

A lot of Muay Thai fighters also fight way more than boxers.

People only have so much energy, and Im sure that advertisers/sponsors in commerical adverts had something to do with it as well when broadcasted on TV

People dying in the ring has something to do with it too.

Boxing was 15 rounds
Muay Thai was brutal until the King of Thailand created rules.
MMA in the early stages was a brutal sport. No weight classes etc. MMA followed the example of boxing and set-up rules in order to become a profitable business.

Lots of boxing fights go over 5 rounds (15 mins).

Mayweather has 33 fights that went over 5 rounds (6 round and up). 66% of his fights.
