Any current fighters with backgrounds in ice hockey, or American Football besides line players like WR, or FS?

Both sports are inherently extremely violent, and has tough participants. Both sports are also way more deep in terms of talent when compared to MMA and even wrestling and boxing in NA.

There are guys like Gerald McCoy, Matt Mitrione, and Brendan Schaub, but I believe they played on the line. Generally speaking the back field players are considered more athletic. They also are smaller, and possibly compete below HW.

As for hockey, I cannot remember any fighter with a hockey background. George St Pierre played hockey like most Canadiens, but I dont think he was ever an elite amateur.

MMA ought to be as much a natural fit for both sports as it is for wrestling. FB has takedowns, and hockey has clinch fighting already.

I do not no much at all about MMA, but a lot of Hockey players train at it, mainly to pick up some fight skills.
NHL player Kurtis Gabriel trains seriously and says if he does not last in the NHL he would pursue a career in MMA. Evander Kane had some experience in Boxing growing up and once thought about taking that path before Hockey.

And Kurtis Gabriel is a big dude. Hockey players be perfect for MMA. Like MMA hockey has lots of short bursts of explosion for a few minutes then sit down. Would love to see an enforcer in MMA.

Kurtis may need to brush up on his fight skills though. Another guy named Kurtis got the best of him a week ago.
