Not really sure, although Takada is involved in some way. My understanding it that it is venture by both *** (K-1's parent company) and former DSE (PRIDE's parent company) employees that were released after the Zuffa buyout.
Their 3 shows thus far have been pretty good. They're doing 155lb. and 205lb. tournaments.

MMA fighters are more skilled now compared to back when Royce was fighting. That wrestling/grappling is what can happen in fights when the clinch happens. This is what makes mma more realistic compared to other fighting sports where the refs usually will seperate the fighters after a clinch. Like someone else mentioned their approach to striking is shaped by other things like takedown possibilities.

Eventually someone will be killed as a result of these fights, and then the Congressional hearings will begin.
My purely personal point of view is that it adds a great dose of realism to fighting, but is a step backward for civilization.

So why don't they have Congressional hearings each time a boxer dies? There are a few every year (usually lightweight fighters who cut too much weight).
Unfortunately, a mixed martial artist did die earlier this year during an event in TX. From all accounts he didn't appear to take a great deal of punishment.
Sadly, people die in all kinds of sports competitions. How many kids die a year during summer football practices?

There's a lot of talking and ignorance in this thread, and those make a poor combination. People who think that two guys just step into a ring and do whatever are insanely mistaken.

Fighting dates back to the beginning of mankind my friend! Plus what about Boxing? Should that be banned because a fighter knew the risks and the fighter chooses to fight, he's not forced like a set up dog fight. UFC/MMA is just another sport, your more likely to die in a car accident.

The irony of your statement aside, I'll simply repeat what I wrote before. MMA is based more on style and technique than strength or toughness. It is also a broader spectrum in which boxing is just a small part.
Keep spouting off ESPN buzzwords like "human cockfighting" if you want to. It's getting you quite far on the internet.
