Oh well in that case I'd give up BR and NO.

Just the far eastern suburbs of BR and Slidell. Louisiana would keep Baton Rouge and New Orleans.

Only if they invest in the lake on the northshore.

I just saw something the other day about how they're re-surveying parts of the North Carolina-South Carolina border because the original survey bases the border on actual trees, many of which have been gone for 50 or more years at this point. What people thought was the state line is apparently a few hundred feet off in some places, causing problems for some small businesses that rely on cross-state line traffic. The guy who owns the gas station he thought was in South Carolina is really angry that he might be moved to NC because 80% of his business comes from a) people taking advantage of lower gas taxes in SC and b) people buying fireworks that are illegal in NC.

Can't see the Florida panhandle folks going for combining with parts of Alabama and MS.

I assume that if Alabama incorporated everything below it all the way to the Gulf, then Georgia could get the rest of the Panhandle, including Tallahassee, Florida's state capital, and Jacksonville, Florida's largest city, both of which are just 20 miles from the state line as is? Most everybody in Florida considers Jax part of Georgia already anyway. We've give them a lot more respect.

No way...I'd like to creep eastward 28 miles just so I can say I DON'T live in Alabama. Not a fan of the culture here but family is in Mobile, Pensacola, and Gulf Breeze; I like the beach, and the cost of living is cheap. That's why I stay here.

Years ago my mom used to mutter under her breath that Florida should just give Alabama the part of the "panhandle" that directly communicates with the gulf. She was so disturbed by the weird state lines that excluded so much of the gulf coast that it drove her nuts. Now that the tax base precludes this rearrangement of state lines all i can say is it will never happen. Guess one can dream though. Your image is really pretty funny, its sort of like Alabama is a state that resembles a skin tight skirt with a big wide ruffle at the bottom... as if!

You do know that 28 miles east is the exact same culture and way of life, right?

It's toned down a bit compared to AL. I'd be more intersested in Gulf Breeze/Santa Rosa County. No "Roll Tide" crap as much everywhere like here. There's a little more diversity as you roll over the FL line with Pensacola NAS and Eglin. You get a good share of military transplants that aren't all into this "Southern" culture, which is good. Just depends on the area of the panhandle in which you live. Alot of it is the same, yes, but it's not quite as bad. Plus you don't have that "heart of dixie" on your plates anymore.
