We are thinking of buying a house aproximately 2.5 miles NE of the Magnolia land fill, but we are worried about smell and groundwater. Neighbors say they have never smelled it.

Thanks for the feedback!!

I have been by there several times during the summer and never smelled it but I don't live there. My DS lives not too far from there though. Not sure we have anyone here who knows much about the area.

Default Landfill

I've lived here since October of last year, and have driven many times past the landfill and have never smelled anything. 2.5 miles should buffer you against anything except the worst. It's covered daily with fill, so nothing sits around out in the open. Unless you were going to have a well for sanitary needs, groundwater should not be an issue. Landfills have monitoring wells around them. Maybe check with ADEM to see if this particular fill has had any problems.

Thanks Ron.. I know I drove by it several times and didn't even know it was there. I didn't even see a lot of seagulls
