You're deluded into thinking a district that is included in the second to worst education system in the country ("At least we're not Mississippi!" is their slogan) is somehow acceptable. Test scores don't lie. The OP says they can afford private school, ye God stop trying to convince them otherwise just because you were not able.. or willing.. to do the same for your children.

You need to look at individual schools, not the entire district. I don't deny that there are bad schools (mostly in Mobile County), its the bad ones that bring down the average for the good ones. Anyone with any knowledge of the area knows that Baldwin County in general has good public schools.

If you're going to give advice at least have some knowledge of the area and know what you are talking about.

I'm done here, I dont have kids and this is not a subject worth arguing about IMO.

every time i log into this site i see comments like these and i wish i had saved my research from the last time i corrected someone.

im 19 i graduated class of 2010, and all threw high school, all i heard on site like these and ESPN( because when Alabama starts winning, all people do is talk about education) , and Yahoo was that alabama had the worst schools.

BUT, if you look at the criteria of how these news papers, magazines and studies rate school systems, they never have a single thing to do with the actual education part.

Here is a list of things that are considered.

1. Student/teacher ratio
2. Teacher Pay
3. student textbook cost
4. lunch cost
5. number of computers to student ratio
6. cost for electives
7. average distance from child's home to school AKA commute
8. teachers average commute

there are alot of others, but i cant remember them all,but the point is, they have nothing to do with what the kid is learning in the class room.

and what exactly does a test score matter when no 2 states have the same standardized test ? and you obviously dont mean SAT scores as Alabama is like #12 in those.

also that "atleast we arent mississippi" slogan is about state overweight/obesity rates, not education, i believe even by the system using the ignorant rating systems in the above, alabama is in the high 30's in most.
