Where are you coming from? Texas

Why are you moving? Relocation within company

Where will you be working ? Husband - Chickasaw, Myself - hospital

Will you buy or rent? Rent

What is your budget ? ~$2000/month

What kind of place are you looking for? Rental home in family neighborhood, but would consider apt complex if there was a pool. I think we will need some kind of pool access in this climate, whether a community pool, YMCA, etc.

Will anyone (spouse, children, pets) be moving with you? Spouse, 2 kids (ages 3 and 10), our dog (but he could go live with Grandpa if necessary)

Do you need/want good public schools? Good public schools are a plus, but I'm strongly considering private so that
1) my 3 year old could be on the same campus as my older one
2) easy access to after school care.
3) schools are not a limitation to finding the right neighborhood.
Currently have a 5th grader in public schools and little one in a 5 day church preschool.

Briefly describe the kind of neighborhood you'd like to live in: families with young children, safe, walkable. I understand Mobile is not as walkable as some other cities, but I would like to be able to walk somewhere from our house - park, library, coffee shop, etc.

List three things that are important to you in order of importance. Outdoor activities (love to hike and kayak, plus that crucial pool access), short commute, charming.

We lived in Jackson, MS several years ago, and I'm hoping for a similar situation in Mobile. It was a great older neighborhood in town, within walking distance to hospitals, churches, restaurants, bakery. Lots of families with young kids. Going to Wal-mart or the mall was a field trip that I enjoyed avoiding.

Also any advice on schools (5th grade) plus preschool / daycare / 3 year old kindergarten for my little one? I plan to return to work part-time, so I'll need GREAT places to send my kids while I work.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Mobile is simular to Jackson,Ms but I think Mobile is more walkable and urban than Jackson.Mobile`s historic district would fit you guys well.

Historic districts: The Oakleigh and Old Dauphin Way historic districts would fit you guys well.Oakleigh has a bike club,it`s withing walking distance from the library, cafe, parks, and other restarunts that are within close proximity. And Oakleigh has a park, cafe and bakery within the neighborhood.

The neighborhood has a lot of charecter.

I live in Oakleigh with a 4 and 2 yr old. They go to private school where my wife teaches. We chose Oakleigh because we can walk to restaurants and a coffee shop, the historic neighborhood has lots of charm, it's very close to downtown happenings, and it's very neighborly. Our bike group does excercise type rides and casual rides (bike date, dress-up rides, bar crawl rides, etc.).

Oh yeah, depending on where you are in Oakleigh the main library is walkable and/or bikeable. Let me know if you have other questions.

Which school do your children attend? Also, is there a pool near the neighborhood? Thanks!

The kids attend UMS-Wright and we belong to The Woodlands pool. The pool is about a 4-5 mile drive away but it is inexpensive and a great place to meet other families. Regarding private schools there are several around and I don't know the differences between them. Since my wife teaches at one of the schools we send the kids there. And yes there is a YMCA downtown.
