Default Have 1 Month to Move Family from Atlanta to Mobile

My husband and I have two young, elementary age sons. Was wondering what the best areas are for schools and family life in Mobile area? Would like to be on a golf course and would like a young family atmosphere, along with top notch schools. Any advice would be appreciated.

If you do a search on Mobile here you should be able to find lots of info especially regarding schools and where to live.
Baldwin County is also very popular with people who work in Mobile. Public schools are better there in most opinions and very family oriented especially around Spanish Fort and Daphne. Close to I10 but traffic is heavy during rush hour. Depending on where you will be working would also make a big difference in travel time. Lake Forest has a golf course Lake Forest - Daphne, AL. I know some of the houses are at least 30 if not older in Lake Forest but there may be a newer addition to the subdivision.
You might want to do a search on that too.
I don't live in the area although it is my hometown. Hopefully some others will give you more info.. soon

Default Mobile Schools

If you are looking for top notch schools in Mobile you're going to need to go the private school route...there are some excellent choices! St. Paul's is a college prepatory school with an amazing faculty. It's located in the Spring Hill section of Mobile. UMS/Wright use to be all boy & all girl college prepatory seperate schools until they merged...UMS being the boys & Wright being the girls. Now they are one!

Both of these schools have amazing academic reputations & "social distinction" in comparison to other area schools, public or private(if that is something you are interested in knowing.) Talk with a local realtor for the best places to live if these schools interest you. I would make specific suggestions but have not lived in Mobile since college & it has grown so :-)

Keeper is correct...Baldwin county is quite popular & their public school system is much stronger than Mobile's. You should check the whole area out...you may like it better than Mobile! Bayside Academy is a excellent private school in Baldwin County. You could definitely find your golf course in Baldwin county whereas in Mobile your golf club homes would be in Country Club Estates (for the Mobile Country Club) or Skyline Country Club which I don't believe Skyline is near any top notch schools.

Hope this helps!!!

Mobile is like any other city in this state, there are wonderful public and private schools. There are areas in both Mobile and Baldwin county that are more desirable than others. Baldwin county seems to have some aura about being "better" than Mobile in terms of quality of education, but they have a host of problems similar to those found in schools on this side of the bay. Comparably, homes in Baldwin county are also more expensive than those in Mobile by about 10 percent.
There are wonderful golf communities in Baldwin county and Mobile. You need to check out both sides of the bay to make an informed decision.
Welcome to LA (Lower Alabama). You will find much to enjoy no matter which county you decide to call home.

Let me say I don't live in Mobile now but it will always be home to me.
I am partial to the midtown section probably because it is an older area with really nice homes.
I would look in both areas of LA. You might want to consider traffic as it is bad during rush hours and some streets like Airport Blvd are busy no matter what time of day, but if you live in Atlanta and have to deal with the traffic there it may not seem that bad.
Check out the seafood as LA has the best.
Keep us posted..

The Spring Hill Area is nice but it is has lost some of its charm(houses can barely fit on the lots) Midtown is very nice especially the Oakleigh area. Some great small bristos and amazing homes. It reminds me of Virginia-Highlands in Atlanta.
