Is it decent? Is there good housing around the area? May be going to work there and I would want to live close by. Or would it be worth it to commute a bit? Thanks.

The immediate area is currently undesirable.I would recommend the De Tonto and Church street historic districts downtown.I also recommend Oakleigh and the Dauphin districts in midtown.I would describe them as beautiful, urban, charming with old world charecter. They are all within 2-6 miles from brookley.

Ok,sounds good. I don't mind a drive of 10-15 miles. Anything more than that is getting too far.

When I think of the neighborhoods around Brookley Field, the first thing that comes to mind is.......Beirut.

There is a neighborhood north of Interstate 10 with streets laid out in such a way that they look like a decorated egg from the air. It was built to house workers at Brookley Field.

Mobile, AL - Google Maps

God bless,

That neighborhood is the Birdsville community and you are correct it was originally built for workers at Brookley. The best options would be housing in the downtown or midtown historic districts.

As for Birdville, there wont be goverment housing there for much longer...and thank GOD! Its got too much land and the housing there is low end. Too many developers want that land for conventional apartments and or commercial development which would be a perfect downtown location.

West Mobile might be a good option, if you have easy access to I-10. Same goes for Daphne or Spanish Fort across the bay, although traffic can be bad going across the bay bridge.

There are some nice houses on Mobile Bay off Dauphin Island Parkway, but the surrounding neighborhoods are not good. Pretty much anything close to Brookley will not be ideal. Hopefully that will change in a few years due to growth at Brookley.
