Default Possible Job in Mobile...

If someone wanted to work in Mobile, but live in Baldwin county...what would be a good place to live?
Considering Robertsdale or maybe Bay Minette.
Our daughter may go to college in Pensacola, so we're keeping in mind what the drive might be for her. She'd live in Pensacola, but would still like to live were we're accessible to her.
Any suggestions?

Foley would be closer to Pensacola but a much longer drive to Mobile than Fairhope, Daphne or Spanish Fort. Summerdale is in between Foley and Robertsdale. I go there to visit my sister but still haven't found downtown Summerdale yet. Robertsdale is a nice little town and would be a little closer to the interstate than Foley. No big stores in Robertsdale though.

It all depends on how long a commute you are willing to make every day. What type of property you are looking for and price.

Hi Keeper, thanks for your reply.
We'd more than likely rent at first. Just to get a better "feel" of the area before we buy. So won't be looking at anything too pricey.
My husband is the one with the possible job in Mobile. He currently commutes in very heavy traffic on an interstate that puts the German Autobahn to shame! On a good day, he does about a 25 minute commute...we won't talk about the bad days.

We once lived in the Florida panhandle, but didn't get over into that part of Alabama much. We've driven I-10 to Mobile, so we're familiar with driving it. Just never had the time to go "exploring" in Baldwin county.
I like the idea of him being closer to Mobile...less of a drive for him. The place he'd work at isn't to far from the tunnel in Mobile. (can't recall the name of the tunnel at the moment...)
I've heard Spanish Fort and Daphne are pretty pricey...we're not the type that has to live in a huge home that cost a fortune, nor would we care to live in a trailer home (not that theres anything wrong with that).
I don't mind rural, as long as it isn't EXTREMELY rural...like the idea of stores and such within a reasonable driving distance. If there is a Wal~Mart close by, I'm good to go! I wouldn't mind week-end trips into Mobile, Foley, or Pensacola to shop for clothing, etc...but would prefer not to drive 30 minutes or more just to grocery shop!

Hope this gives you a better idea of what we're looking for. Oh and my husband will commute on a M-F basis...my daughter will only visit on weekends/holidays...out of the two, he needs to be the one with less of a commute.

Delete Bay Minette as a possibility, way too much noise since the navy flight training came to town. No help from the FAA or congressman. In excess of 200 flights today.

Hi, we are in Daphne, and my hubby works in Mobile. Our daughter will be attending UWF (university of WEst Florida) in Pensacola in the fall.
This is a great area, however we don't care for all the development that is going on. IF that doesnt bother you, then this is a wonderful place to live. Lake Forest in Daphne is a huge subdivision with very affordable housing for sale...and lots of it. IT is beautiful and full of trees, not like normal subdivisions. The rents I feel are a little pricey, around $1,000/month, but I think that is happening everywhere. But, that is for a very nice 3 bed house. I think you can find smaller homes around $800/ month.
Let me know if you need anymore info.
OHHH, WalMart is 5-15 minutes away, as are all the grocery stores and shopping malls.
