Howdy,

Planning on driving out from Austin for a 5 night stay in Gulf Shores in mid August. Currently have a condo reserved on the beach. Every time I look at Gulf Shores weather forecasts it appears to be either raining or about to rain. Further research shows August is statistically the best chance of rain in that area. I still have a chance to cancel the condo with minimal financial loss and am considering it as I'm not up for a trip if half of it will be raining.

I would appreciate any info from folks that know the area well about what to expect in August related to rain. Is it just for an hour every day and then you have the rest of the day to be outside? Is it raining most of the afternoon once the heat kicks up?

Looking forward to the trip but could use some help with this question in case I need to cancel it.

Thanks!

Typically in August you will have an afternoon rain shower that moves in any time between 1-3 pm. It usually lasts for 30 minutes to an hour. But there is always a chance of a tropical system which could bring all day rain. But September is the peak month for tropical systems.

In the future you should consider going to the Gulf up until July and then again at the end of September.
Those of us who have lived with this coast line have come to know that August is not a premium month and you may have gotten a better deal on the condo because of that.

However, if I had it all set up, I would go anyway. We can't control what happens in the world but we can control how we respond to it. If I had three clear days and the rest rainy, I would still have a ball. (And I have done this many times)

mobile area get more rain than anywhere in united states, it will rain everyday at 2pm. but that just normal, don't let it stop you from coming. most of the time the beach area is rain free and the rain fall is north of the beach.
