I was just thinking the other day and though I'd share my ideas. I was thinking the city could help redevelop downtown by relaying the streets with brick or cobblestone and offering to renovate the exterior of downtown businesses. Here is a machine that does this
here. Not to mention, these roads are easier to maintain than asphalt.

I was putting some numbers together and it came to $4-7m which for what it can accomplish, it would be well worth it. Give $2m to 160 businesses for repainting, new signage and etc. That is $12,500 per property. Say $2k for painting, $3-4k for new signs and $5-7.5k for things like balconies and such.

Next, lay down around 5-6 miles of road which would only be about $2-5 million depending on brick or cobblestone.

Of course, the city already has plans for the open air market. Include that and it brings the total $6-9m. If the city wanted to, it could give the money to businesses as a loan but with low interest or require the business stays there and after a certain amount of time, the loan is forgiven.

I think it would attract more people to downtown.

Brick streets would add to the historicle vibe. There are already brick streets buried under the current asphalt.

I know and if the conditions good enough than just polish them but also if the businesses were all given some way to refurbish their exteriors along with the brick streets, just imagine how it would look.

The streets are too narrow I think for a street car. The only street that had them was Government in 1800s and maybe early 1900s. And that's before Govt had the tunnel right there. Trolleys may work but it would be cool to have a street car from going back down government thru midtown. You still would need a lot of people downtown to support it, which we don't have as of yet.

I work downtown, and honestly it would be neat to have this. Could possibly relieve some congestion, but idk if Downtown is ready to support it yet. However, it does seem to be getting busier and busier with each passing week.
