Question How about Mobile suburbs?

Hey to everyone. What a fantastic site this is!!! I have questions galore. My husband and I are searching areas to re-locate from outside Phila., Pa. to outside Mobile. We are in our 60's and are looking for a quiet area but still not out in the boondocks. We don't want to be on top of the neighbors so we don't want a developement and would like a couple acres if possible. We have researched and can only get so much from reading about the areas would rather have people that live their give us feedback. We were thinking of around Semmes area to the west or the Bay Minette area. Not too close to the water to avoid traffic but close enough if you get my drift. Any and all comments would be appreciated. My husband is retired but I am still working in the medical field for doctors. Would like to continue for awhile longer. Thanks to everyone in advance. !

Semmes would be a great choice for you !! I`m from the Semmes area and Wilmer would be nice also which is about 5 miles from Providence Hospital( since you work in the Medical field)

I agree with Semmes and Wilmer being good areas, and close to Providence Hospital.

You could also consider Satsuma or Creola which are in north Mobile County, those towns would be about a 20 minute drive to Springhill Hospital.

Bay Minette is a nice little town, but it is about 35-40 minutes from Mobile. However, BayMinette does have it's own small hospital.

You could also look into the Loxley or Stapleton area and seek employment at the hospital in Foley (or Bay Minette).

There is also the small town of Lillian in Baldwin County which is closer to Pensacola.

Depending on your specialty in nursing, you might also want to look at Springhill Medical Center. My wife worked at both SH and Providence, and much preferred SH...of course, that was just her experience. Best of luck!

There is also Summerdale and Silverhill in Baldwin County. The hospital is in Foley.

Let us know what you decide. I love Mobile but the traffic in some areas is horrid, no matter the time of day. Mainly Airport Blvd, where Providence hospital is located. I would recommend if you are going to work in that area to live somewhere where you won't have to travel very far to work.

I think it all depends on if you want to work at a 'big or small' hospital. Live in a 'city' or a small town.

And the hospitals in the small towns like Bay Minette and Foley need workers just as bad as the big ones.

So true.. SNL maybe even more so. I wonder if pay is less in small towns than in Mobile?

Not so much in Daphne and Fairhope, but it is lower in the areas like Bay Minette and here in Atmore. But, the cost of living is lower in these areas too. My sister is an LPN and lives here in Atmore but commutes to work in Daphne. With the high gas prices it's almost not worth it anymore and she's considering finding work closer to home.
