I am moving to Mobile very soon and am stressed out about choosing a high schools for my kids. I am looking at Murphy High IB, UMS Wright, St Paul, Daphne high IB, Fairhope IB, and Baker High. Does anyone know which school has most Ivy acceptance? It really does not matter to me weather the school is private or public. I'd like to get into a school that is best for accemical gifted and highly motivated stutent. Also, safety is a concern. Any input is appreciated. Thanks

When I taught at U.S.A., one of my colleagues sent his kids to UMS Wright, as he wanted both of them to attend schools such as Stanford, Harvard, and Yale. I've also heard good things about St. Paul - our chair sent all four of his kids there, and I think they all attended Yale or Cornell. I don't have any children, but did find that the kids who came to U.S.A. from those schools were well prepared for college.

I'd be inclined to say UMS Wright, but if your child is going to go to a Ivy they can get into an Ivy from any school as long as they have a great application (read: grades, extracurriculars, etc). I don't think you could go wrong with Murphy and if absolutely necessary McGill-Toolen. Going to to a more competitive school actually could get them rejected.
Personally, the Alabama School of Math and Science would be my choice, but it's not an option. |

I would say Baker for public schools.
I did not attend high school in Mobile. This is what I have always heard since I moved here. |

You couldn`t go wrong with any of the schools that you have posted. The Alabama School of Math and Science is highly favorable. The students that attend that school are not all from the Mobile area, it offers dorm type of living as well. Mary G. Montgomery would be a good pick as well. |

This thread caught my eye because there was a school shooting at Davidson HS the other day...needless to say, definitely don't send your kids to that school. Here's the news story:
FOXNews.com - Student Kills Self in Front of 150 Classmates at Alabama High School - Local News | News Articles | National News | US News Anyways, to at least be of some help to people on this thread, I looked up school test scores on GreatSchools.net. In the city of Mobile itself, Baker HS and LeFlore HS have good test scores (a 7 / 10 rating or higher). In the surrounding area, Satsuma HS, Theodore HS, and Montgomery HS have good test scores. Baker is the best school in the city and the entire area, while Satsuma is the best school in the area surrounding Mobile. I separated the schools in the city and the surrounding area just in case you specifically want to live in the city itself or in the suburbs. |
