Default Citronelle area/ need info moving soon

Need info.. Will be moving to North of Mobile in a few weeks. Citronelle area. Have 2 boys (13/8). How are the schools and area? I have lived in Tallahassee area for a while but was born and raised outside of Dothan. I've been told that the folks around there are pretty much like back home but have no clues about schools, crime etc. Any info would be helpful.

Crime is something you wouldn`t have to realy worry abou in Cittronell. They have a Citronelle high and middle, and I believe they have 2 elementary schools. You can go MCPSS.com (Mobile County Public School System.com) It has a list of every school in the county adress ,phone number, test scores, etc. Citronelle is about a 30 min drive from Mobile city limits I beleieve.

I went to the Mobile County Public Schools :: Welcome to MCPSS.com . They have a new website with various languages! It's pretty awesome.

I had a hard time finding the report cards for the schools on that website. But you can find it by clicking on About MPCSS or you can go directly to Alabama Dept of Education at www.alsde.edu . Click on Reports. It was very interesting. It will list a lot of info for you like ACT scores, how many got in trouble for drugs, assaults- even how they resolved those problems.

I've always thought Citronelle was a cute town.

I live in the town next to Citronelle. Citronelle people are peculiar people. They are good people. It's a town where, if you want out of the city you have to go through woods to get to the next big town. So most people stay pretty close. People take a little time to warm up to and get to know, but once you know them, they'll give you the shirt off of their back. They don't have problems with crime. I'd say it is overall a good town to live in and a beautiful one at that. It has areas that has the old down town looking homes. For a city in the woods, you would have everything you need except a wal-mart.

I do think that things will change soon because the new steel mill is comming and it will be within a 20-30 min drive from Citronelle. Citronelle is the biggest town to the mill site. You have Mount Vernon or Macintosh but neither are as big as Citronelle.

I'm sorry I don't know about the schools. I've heard that the new elementary school down 45 is a good school. My little cousin went there. I'm sorry I don't know about the rest right now. I do know they have a good play ground that I take my children too often. We don't have one over here. We'll be neighbours soon.

Stay away from citronelle. I tried it, and was sorry. The place is small, but it's very depressed and has a trailer trash ghetto feel to it. The people openly drive around drunk tossing beer cans out the window while thumping noise pollution. They have a loitering problem and drug problem, and just when what few normal people try to settle in for the evening, the trash starts coming out of the wood work even more, while they are thumping noise and looking for drugs. The cops don't care/pc, and hardly ever stop to check anyone out, which makes it a haven for trash. They claim the crime rate is "0", zero ? Give me a break. If you buy that, then I will sell you the Golden Gate Bridge. The town is also anchored by a night club on the north side. What a nice gateway huh ?

It's also hard to find a job, and be careful driving down 45, they have bad accidents all the time because they either can't drive, don't care, are drunk and high, or all of the above. As a matter of fact, there's literally one memorial for about every four to five miles on the side of the highway. If the police stopped people, they could prevent many of those accidents, but they let the fire department and rescue workers play clean up duty all the time instead. The elementary school is fairly nice, and I think that's because it's actually outside of the main town, the middle school is ok, but the highschool is full of ghetto and trailer trash and rundown. Drug dealers and alcoholics like to loiter in the highschool play area at nights also.

Keep yourself and your kids away from that place, unless you like that sort of thing. The pro citronelle garbage here will make excuses and even lie, so please don't listen to their b.s. if you don't want to live around inferior trash. The ironic part is that this inferior low class trash acts like it's "cool" to live in a trashy environment, but get pissed if someone else calls it trashy. Go and figure out how these "people" "think". It's a wonder that such animals with such a low iq can even manage to feed themselves. I'm NOT a snob, and NOT rich by any means, I'm just telling the truth, which hardly gets told anymore in our society. I know it might sound like I'm exaggerating, but I'm not. I admit that it's not quite as bad as an inner city neighborhood in a big city, but for a very small town of less than 4,000 people, it could be much much better. I suppose it's not always the number of people, but what kind of people that can make or break a community. If you want to live in the general area, try Gulf Crest, which is about 4 miles to the south on 45. That's a much better little place, at least it seems to be.

I WILL add this, I'm tired of trash using a low employment rate as an excuse, because if they can afford alcohol, drugs, fancy rims, suv's, and expensive stereos, they aren't that bad off to use the employment rate as an excuse. Most of the social problems ARE personal choices, and when a town gets a bad rep, it keeps progress away. Who in their right mind or has decent morals wants to invest in a bad town ??? If you are a punk kid because you haven't been been raised properly, or have a juvenile mind/an "adult" who needs to grow the hell up, you might think it's "cool" to live in a trashy town, but a person with morals or at least an average iq doesn't think it is. There is a few good people in that town, but the majority ought to be ashamed of themselves, and that includes city officials.

I agree with some of your post. Throwing trash on the street, dealing drugs, and playing loud boom systems at all hours is unacceptable, but please don't stereotype all people living in a trailer as "trailer trash". Some low income people don't have a choice, and it's better than them living in section 8 apartments subsidized by your tax dollars.
